Hi Peter, If I understand your question correctly, you are asking what the code "HD" means for your machine. I am unable to find the code "HD", however, here is a list of the codes for these Maytag models, perhaps one looks similar to "HD". Hopefully this answers your question!
Washer displaying code messages
- "LF" (Washer is taking too long to fill)
Check the following:
Are the water inlet hoses kinked or clogged?
Are the water inlet valve screens clear?
Press PAUSE/CANCEL to clear display.
- "Ld" (Washer is taking too long to drain water from the wash tub)
Check the following:
Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?
Is the drain hose installed properly? See "Connect the Drain Hose." Press PAUSE/CANCEL

- "uL" (Unbalanced Load)
If the load is unbalanced, the washer will display this code while running an imbalanced

lid and redistribute the load. Close lid and press START.
- "oL" (Over Load)

fill. To correct the overload, remove several items and add detergent. Close lid and press
START.
- "Sd" (Suds Detected)
Did you use regular detergent?
Regular or hand-washing detergents are not recommended for this washer. Use only High
Efficiency ("HE") detergent.
Did you add too much detergent?
Always measure detergent. Follow detergent manufacturer's directions.
If excessive suds are detected, the washer will display this code while running a suds
reduction correction routine at the end of the wash cycle. The suds reduction routine
removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. If the code remains and
the wash cycle dial is flashing after the recovery routine has stopped, re-select your
desired cycle using cold water. Press START. Do not add detergent.
- "lid" (Lid Opened)
Is the lid open? Close the lid to clear the display. If the lid remains open for more than 10
minutes, water in the wash tub will drain.

This code will appear at the end of the wash cycle to indicate that the cold and hot water
inlet hoses are switched. See "Connect the Inlet Hoses."
- "dL" (Door/Lid cannot lock)
Indicates lid is not locked. Check for items caught in the lid keeping it from closing. Press
PAUSE/CANCEL once to clear the code.
- "dU" (Door/Lid cannot unlock)
Is there excessive weight on the lid, such as a basket of laundry? Excessive weight will
keep the lid from unlocking. Press PAUSE/CANCEL once to clear the code.
- "F##" code
Press PAUSE/CANCEL once to clear code. Press START. If code appears again, call for
service.
Over-sudsing is the main cause of LE error codes. Using non-HE (high efficiency) detergents or too much detergent will cause stress on the motor. In addition, detergent residue can also cause leaking and odor. Follow these steps to resolved an LE error code caused by over-sudsing. Step 1: Unplug the washer and allow the unit to sit for 30 minutes to give the suds time to dissolve. Step 2: Plug the washer back in and press [Power] to turn on the washer. Step 3: Do not choose a washing cycle. Press the [Spin Speed] key until "No Spin" is selected. Step 4: Press [Start/Pause] to begin a drain only cycle. Step 5: After the drain only cycle has completed, remove the clothing items from the machine. Turn the power back on and select [Rinse and Spin] and then press [Start/Pause]. This will remove excess soap suds and light residue from the drum. Repeat this step until no visible suds are in the drum of the washer.
You are putting too much soap before you begin the wash cycle...... When the word SUDS is displayed then on the rinse cycle there is too much soap and the suds are still on the clothes. Try cutting back on the soap, maybe cut back almost 1/2.
Save yourself a lot of time and money and replace the analog pressure switch. This will solve your issues by taking care of both error codes at the same time.
Hi,
Initially unplug the washing machine.
While the washer remains unplugged, press and hold the [Start/Pause] button on the front panel for 5 seconds.
Plug the unit back in, and run a rinse and spin cycle to test if the LE code is cleared.
If you still face problem then follow the procedure :
Unplug the washer and allow the unit to sit for 30 minutes to give the suds time to dissolve.
Plug the washer back in and press [Power] to turn on the washer.
Do not choose a washing cycle. Press the [Spin Speed] key until "No Spin" is selected.
Press [Start/Pause] to begin a drain only cycle.
After the drain only cycle has completed, remove the clothing items from the machine. Turn the power back on and select [Rinse and Spin] and then press [Start/Pause]. In new installations, this error can sometimes present because of a miscommunication between the control panel and the wash motor. In this instance, the washer simply needs to be reset.

Gentle wash cycles such as Perm Press, Delicates, Hand Wash, and Wool/Silk should only be used for smaller loads. Because the cycles are more gentle while tumbling and spinning, too many items in the drum can register as an issue with the motor. In this instance reset the unit and run a test rinse and spin cycle.
Has the washer been overloaded?
Single bulky items or large loads can add extra weight to the drum and place stress on the motor. Remove some of the clothing and restart. If the issue is still present after a few items have been removed, unplug the washer for 30 minutes to allow the motor to cool and then restart the cycle.
It could also mean the hall sensor is defective and will need to be replaced.
are you using the correct HE detergent?
