Was working fine previously but now is making funny sound which increase in pitch until it prints a line, then starts low pitch increasing again until makes a sound like it is printing a line, over and over until eventually a page is printed. Any ideas?
I hate to mention that I am running a dual system (macbook pro with virtual windows) cause that seems to spook people from wanting to help me with this. I am running the printer on the mac side.
SOURCE: Brother printer prints solid black on one side
This is caused by a faulty drum/charging circuit or laser unit. The drum is positively charged with static electricity and a laser draws the image onto the drum (changing the charge to negative) the toner is positively charged to it will adhere to the negatively charged image which is now on the drum. your problem is that the drum is either not being positively charged or the laser is charging the whole drum. There is a corona wire on the drum, remove the drum, sweep the corona wire (there will be a tab that moves left and right) and try it again. next step is to replace the drum. if you dont have a spare drum or one from another printer then it may be more cost effective to buy another printer as drums are quite expensive and it may not even be the problem.

Hello,
You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hi oregann, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you.
Does the printhead move left to right travelling along a metal rod ?
Can you get a small amount of machine oil and place it on a tissue and rub it along the metal bar and see if problem stops and let us know if it fixes issue ?
