Printer taking 5 minutes to print out one page

Was working fine previously but now is making funny sound which increase in pitch until it prints a line, then starts low pitch increasing again until makes a sound like it is printing a line, over and over until eventually a page is printed. Any ideas?
I hate to mention that I am running a dual system (macbook pro with virtual windows) cause that seems to spook people from wanting to help me with this. I am running the printer on the mac side.

Hi oregann, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you.

Does the printhead move left to right travelling along a metal rod ?
Can you get a small amount of machine oil and place it on a tissue and rub it along the metal bar and see if problem stops and let us know if it fixes issue ?

SOURCE: Brother printer prints solid black on one side

This is caused by a faulty drum/charging circuit or laser unit. The drum is positively charged with static electricity and a laser draws the image onto the drum (changing the charge to negative) the toner is positively charged to it will adhere to the negatively charged image which is now on the drum. your problem is that the drum is either not being positively charged or the laser is charging the whole drum. There is a corona wire on the drum, remove the drum, sweep the corona wire (there will be a tab that moves left and right) and try it again. next step is to replace the drum. if you dont have a spare drum or one from another printer then it may be more cost effective to buy another printer as drums are quite expensive and it may not even be the problem.

SOURCE: Ghost printing

Hello,

You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Prior to past few days printer worked fine. Now it prints a few postcards then gives a print buffer message on printer screen and from there on it prints gobbledy gook. Now it won't even print a test...

Sounds like you cover all the bases. I just wonder if you reset the unit via the service mode?
resetting the printer should have cleared the memory.

Hold down select and return while powering on machine, hold until self test comes up on display then press go, this will get you into service mode.

Run the memory diagnostics.

My Dell 1720 copies tells me it has stopped because the photoconductor kit has stopped working. I just replaced everything and keep getting the same error.

If the drum cartridge has not been replaced, it must be replaced before resetting the counter to avoid damaging the printer.
  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Open the front door.
  3. With the front door open, hold down the Continue button while powering on the printer.
  4. Keep holding continue until all lights start flashing then release the button.
  5. Once only the Error light is on, close the front door.
  6. At this point Continue, Ready/Data, Toner Low, and Load Paper should all be lit.
If the previous set of steps did not go as described then do not continue. Please complete the previous set of steps again.
  1. Wait for the printer to make a sound as though it is about to print something. (This may take a minute.)
  2. Press Cancel 4 times SLOWLY (1 second between presses) to cycle through lights until ONLY the Toner Low light is on. (It may take more than 4 presses.)
  3. Press and hold Continue until all the lights cycle through and go back to Toner Low
  4. Cycle power on the printer.
  5. Press and release the Continue button to print out the settings page. Under Cartridge Information it should read Photoconductor: 0K

Prints PDF documents VERY slowly (4-5) per page

The actual issue you will find that its not so much the actual printing part of the process that is slow, its actually the spooling to the printer that takes the time.
Does your printer support PostScript printing ? (PostScript is a printing & imaging standard used by many printers) To find out if your printer does indeed support this either refer to your manufacturers documentation or perform a test page and look to see if you have a PostScript enabled option.
If your printer does support PostScript, make sure you are using its PostScript printer driver, most of the time we generally use PCL drivers, so simply change this.

Regards....
If you find your printer does not support PostScript there are a few other tweaks we can implement to increase printing speed.

Firstly we can force PDF files to be printed as graphics as opposed to text, to do this launch your chosen PDF viewer, select Print > Advanced > Print as image
Lower the print resolution, if we lower the print resolution most of the time the difference is very small, but it can reduce the actual print size of the document by up to 300%, which can greatly decrease printing times.
Make sure you are using the latest version of any print drivers or your chosen PDF printing program, normally Adobe Acrobat.
If the printer only has a small amount of memory if possible add more, if possible install a PostScript SIMM.
Check the amount of ram your computer currently has, check memory usage from task manager when printing to ascertain usage

I bought two new cartridges for my printer but the printer prints funny. there is no color and the black appears faded. my printer is about 2 years old. have any ideals?

Sounds like the jets may be clogged. You may have to run multiple times till they are good. Print a test after each clean and see if that helps.  You can use the operator panel or the Lexmark X5100 Series Solution Center to clean the nozzles. Using the operator panel 1 Load paper in the All-In-One. For help, see page 16. 2 Press Options until Cartridges appears on the display. 3 Press the right arrow until Clean appears on the display. 4 Press Select. A nozzle page prints forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles. 5 Print your document again to verify your print quality has improved. 6 To further improve print quality, try wiping the print cartridge nozzles and contacts (see page 44), and then print your document again. 7 If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge nozzles up to two more times. you can get the owners manual on line at this address:  http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/x5150/eng/ug.pdf

please rate this and good luck.

Hp laserjet 1012 printer for mac OSX is continually "stopped"

I dont use macs do i could not tell you have to manage the print queue but there is something you can try.

Take the power lead out of the printer and leave it out for 5 minutes and let the printers memory clear then re-send the print, it could a big print and the printer only has small memory so it could take awhile to process :)

Slow printing

I'M USING MY BJC 80 ON A PACKARD BELL M35-U-57, VISTA HOME BASIC. CONNECTED THE PRINTER WITH A GENERIC USB-PARALELL CABLE, NO DRIVER. FIRST HAD THOSE 5 TO 7 MINUTES DELAYS FOR PRINTING. WENT TO THE PRINTERS "PROPERTIES", "ADVANCED OPTIONS" AND TICKED "PRINT DIRECTLY", IN THE "PORTS" SECTION I DISABLED "BIDERECTIONAL PORT". IT'S WORKING SWEET. NO MATTER THE QUALITY. Prints on Many Pages

May i know, what the printer print out? funny character? If Yes! Then you may not select correct printer driver to print, just go to "Print" and select the correct printer driver. If the printer driver are correct, then you need to delete the previous driver, after that, restart pc and install the latest driver download from internet!(please make sure you choose the correct windows version driver to download). If above solutions also can not solve your problem, then you need to change another make sure good printer cable to test it. That's it.
