Scanner has stopped working

Error message: Unable to open Twain source.

My scanner has worked fine but now has stopped working. I took it back to the shop where they tried it and it worked fine. I have re-installed the drivers but it still won't work. I have tried a different usb cable as the scanner doesn't seem to be talking to my pc but that didn't work either.

I have hardly used this scanner and its practically brand new but PC world won't take it back as they say my pc is at fault.

Please help

Many thanks

I am also having the same problem but so far have been able to work around it by using different USB ports. I am using the Vista operating system and when the scanner is finally recognized it automatically loads the device drivers. I too am leaning toward the idea that it could be the power cable.

When I had the cable that came with the printer connected to the scanner, and the cable that came with the scanner connected to the printer, the scanner didn't work.

Changing the cables changed everything.

UNABLE TO OPEN TWAIN SOURCE

I a have many years reparing canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

You didnt specify what scanner you have but your problem is a common one. I would go to the website of the manufactuer of your scanner and download the latest drivers (try googling the make and model of your scanner and adding drivers on the end of it), which will include the twain drivers you need then I would try the scanner again. I think this will correct your problem.

I hope this helps you out.

When i try to scan i get this message: unable to open TWAIN source Please check connection then re-start Toolbox the connections are tight

Driver mismatch - the driver of the scanner has forgotten the location of the TWAIN driver because another software has been using it lately. Follow this

Error message cannot find twain source and toolbox

Have you tried deleting the scanner from add/remove hardware under control panel? If not, try disconnecting it from the computer, then try deleting it, then retry the install one more time.

Error message

Hi toolpusher

Try going to CanoScan Toolbox > Settings and reset the 'defaults' button at bottom... this will restore factory settings and hopefully fix your problem... The other error message you can expect to get is "unable to scan - insufficent memory, check your **** space' (or something similar)... same fix works for both! ...Have had both messages on mine, sounds like a semi-regular conflict on some sort, but seems to be easily fixed. Good luck :-)

Unable to select TWAIN source

tried uninstallin and installin canon scanner drivers..nothing works..still seeing unable to select twian source..

so i tried an alternative..here we go..
on vista 64 os/vista any version..click Start>All programs>Windows fax and scan

next click new scan on top and that got me going.

some say there are issues with the way usb talks to old scanners with new operating systems like mine (vista 64). hope it helps until you find the actual cure.

Scanner will not connect to computer

'Twain' only means 'Technology without an important name', as this is refering to your printer/scanner, i would suggest that you disconnect the printer and remove any driver from Add/Remove programmes. Re-install printer software/driver and re connect printer when prompted and if possible in a different usb port, if that's how it's connected. If the problem persists and the pc is unable to communicate with the printer the fault will lie with the hardware. Hope it's only a driver glitch.
