On my toshiba mini laptop the cursor gets stuck in a page up and down mode - just goes up and down but won't move right or left. I may have hit some key, but how do I get out of it?

Hi,

You have Scroll Lock on.

Look at the top of the keyboard for a key which says "Scr Lock" on it and press that key.

the Scroll lock will then be removed allowing you to use the mouse cursor properly.

Cursor keeps moving to unexpected locations while typing

My laptop does this and so does my Linux computer.
An optical mouse needs to work on a featureless surface. My oak grain desk is not good.
A mouse pad with a picture is also bad.
Use a clear textured surface - like a one colour mouse pad...
Or
Try a new mouse - a cheap one will do for testing. The tail on your mouse may be breaking. (Yes, they do that...)

It seems to happen with optical mice on random pattern surfaces.

Mouse does not move cursor. Has new batteries.

Hello
There is a small reset button on the bottom of the mouse push and hold it in for a couple seconds.

You would need to download and install software and drivers for mouse from the manufacturer to get a battery saving option.

bad mouse action , no other words need be said just that.

if the 1 mouse is wired it is bad.
if there are 2 mice connected , shut one down 2mice not allowed.

if the mouse pad is enabled then that is 2 mice if usb mouse used.
and not ever good to do that,
disable one of the mice. (easy no? rules)
i disable my LT here, , in control panel, device manager , mouse pad synaptic or what ever it is.
RC right click disable, it , I hate mice pads././/

Windows keep popping up

I've had this happen to me by accident once and a while. if it's many months then possibly re-installing the touchpad drivers (or updating them) would help.
You can also adjust mouse settings in the control panel, found in my computer on the left side of the window.
Hope this helps a little, It does sound like the buttons are sticky. be sure to rate! :)
