TV is on for long periods of time, that is probably related to the problem. Main problem: The red and green lamps shut off and leave a blue screen.
Had back cover off to see the two lamps shut off and noticed the rubber (oil?) cover on the blue lamp was distended, and hot. Turned TV off and the next day rubber cover on the blue lamp had returned to its normal shape.
After reading other's solutions on this site, I took off front speaker cover and turned down the lower control screw (maybe 1/4 in.) for the blue lamp because I also had the light blue horizontal lines. With the front open, I could see the red and green crts were still shutting off after a few seconds. After putting the front cover back on, surprisingly, all the lamps stayed on.
Now the colors seemed to be wavering between normal and a predominant yellow, so I readjusted the blue control back slightly.
Can solder connections just crack by themself or from heat?? Although I did'nt see anything obvious when I had the front open, I'm asking because even though the TV appears to be working fine right now, I don't believe that my slight adjustment activated the red and green lamps. It seems more likely that a loose connection is seperating, and I'm concerned that even rolling the TV back into its usual spot has the potential to cause the red and green lamps to fail.
Any insights you can provide will be very appreciated.
Could you show a picture of the distended cover you mentioned? Were the light blue lines you were referring to, diagonal, or truly horizontal?
The 'oil' you're referring to is more than likely the glycol-based CRT coolant. Has any of it leaked or seeped from that opening? If just the blue gun is turning off, you want to look carefully to see if any of it has dripped down the tube and possibly gotten into the yoke or board at the bottom. When the TV stays on, how is the picture? Is it fuzzy, with severe contrast or a red tint? The next time it's on, look down into the lenses (try sunglasses) and see if the fluid is clear or cloudy.

To: Fujifrontier, First of all, thank you for responding. The main problem though, is the red and green lamps/CRTs were shutting off after only a few seconds, leaving a total blue screen.
I do not have a picture of the distended rubber boot, so I will try to explain. The back panel on the TV needs to be off. On the top surface of each of the 3 lamps, there's a round opening about the size of a quarter. In that opening, coming right up to top, is a thin rubber cover or boot. The boot on the blue lamp was distended and hot. I unscrewed the top surface of one of the other two lamps, lifted the rubber boot and saw what looked like an oil. The next day after the blue lamp had cooled, the rubber boot returned to normal shape. I only mentioned this to see if I could get a confirmation on the TV possibly getting too hot.
The light blue or white lines were not diagonal. They were horizontal, but arched, or curved. This problem appears to be well documented on this site, and is supposed to be corrected by taking off the front speaker cover, then the inside front panel, then adjusting the lower row of 3 screws, depending on which color your lines are. I did this and I believe it corrected the lines, but more importantly, my red and green lamps are staying on. I don't think I corrected the whole problem by this small adjustment, and was wondering if this sounds more like a shorted wire or a faulty solder connections. Any insights appreciated, thanks again.
Nothing leaked. blue gun is on, it's the red and green that were shutting off. Picture is not fuzzy, fluid is clear.
