MAYTAG DRYER I HAVE AN ELECTRIC DRYER THAT TAKES AL ONG TIME TO DRY. I DON'T THINK ITS A VENTING PROBLEM BECAUSE IT VENTS DIRECTLY THRU THE WALL. WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CHECK. DO THE HEATING ELEMENTS EVER NEED TO BE REPLACED. ITS THERE AND EASY WAY TO CHECK THEM?? THANKS CHRIS

check all of your duct work clean it out make sure there is no lint in the duct work going from the dryer to the wall also check the duct work going from the wall to the outside of the house

Hello- It sound like a very common problem and one that you may be able to remedy yourself. It is likely that the dryer is not venting well and the hot moist air is not getting out of the dryer thus taking longer to dry.

• Check the venting at the back of the dryer and make sure the flexible duct is not crushed or crimped. If it is then you can replace it (you can get 4" dryer duct from most hardware stores). Even if it looks ok you should remove it from the dryer and the wall and see if there is a lot of lint build up inside.
• Turn the dryer on and go to the exterior of the house where the vent comes out of the exterior wall and feel how much air is coming out. It should be blowing pretty hard like a fan would. You can also feel inside the vent if possible and see if you feel a lot of lint. Some vents have a little cage over the end to prevent squirrels from getting in there and that can be removed and cleaned. If the air flow is low then you may need to have a duct cleaning service out especially if the vent runs a long distance inside the wall and had many bends.
• A good way to test if the venting is a problem is to run the dryer with the vent detached from the wall inside. It is best to put pantyhose over the end of the duct to prevent too much lint from filling the room.
• If is is still taking a long time to dry you may have an issue with the Operating Thermostat and should have a Tech out to check the heating system.

This complaint usually is attributed to clogged exhaust venting somewhere. As a process of elimination, remove the exhaust venting from behind the dryer and run your loads. If the dryer dries clothes properly, then your issue is definitely with the exhaust venting (e.g.: inside wall, attic, etc.). If possible, check the entire path of exhaust venting or contact a vent cleaning company.

Inspect the dryer venting from the rear of the dryer to the outside vent hood of the home.
If there's a restriction in the vent--the clothing in the dryer takes longer to dry.
When an LG dryer is functioning normally---the time required to dry laundry is determined by the *Sensor* located on the drum side of the lint filter housing and by the main control board.
When laundry is near dry--any Time Remaining on the control panel that is *not* needed will be eliminated---except for the last 6 minutes.
The final 6 minutes of any LG automatic cycle is for cooling down the laundry before the dryer ends the cycle.
If a dryer *counts down* to the last 6 minutes but the laundry is still not dry--the computer will allow the dryer to run until the laundry has dried or defaults (not drying within the additional time allowed).
Dryer vents that are longer than 8 feet with more than (2) 90 degree turns--can affect drying performance.
Setting the DRY LEVEL selector to *Very Dry* will solve most dryability issues. In homes with abnormally long vents--even the longer run time in the *Very Dry* setting is usually not sufficient to dry laundry loads.
Reducing the length of the vent or starting a second cycle becomes necessary to fully dry the clothing.
If a second cycle was started---only the amount of time that is needed to dry laundry will be used before dropping to 6 minutes and then the cycle will end with dry laundry.


LG gas dryers are more sensitive to venting length and air flow resistance. The gas burner can cause a rapid increase in temperature compared to an electric burner.
Rapid temperature rise in a gas dryer leads to premature burner shutdown (longer time required to dry laundry).
The gradual temperature increase of an electric element is more "forgiving" in homes where the dryer venting is less than ideal.

Make sure the lint trap in the door is clean. It has a plastic cover that opens. Disconnect the venting at the rear and run a load, if it works you have a restriction in the hose after the dryer or in the wall past the hose.

I suspect you have a blocked air vent. A blocked vent will definitely extend your drying time. You may even find yourself having to run a load twice to get it fully dried. One way to confirm this is to disconnect the vent hose from the back of your dryer and dry one load with the machine venting directly into your laundry room. If that load dries quickly then you know the problem is a blocked vent. Most vents get blocked by lint near their exit to the outside. There's usually a screen at this location to prevent small animals from crawling into your house. Often this screen gets clogged with lint. Most vents are designed to allow removal and cleaning of this screen from the outside.

most of the time your complaint is the home owners house venting.run a load with the venting detached[it wont hurt a thing] if ok then must clean venting till dried as well as with out venting.if still long dry times first must make sure air ways in dryer are clean[should have good air flow at back if hand held there] and may need to remove front to clean lint filter area.and inspect blower ,making sure mounted to shaft and not worn in the center[blower key way, inside the hole where motor shaft goes thru blower]you dryer only has one element so if you have heat its heating.if you did all above and have problem still can be electronic[thermostats,timers etc........but i have fixed 1000s of dryers and their having problems are rarer.i hope that helps God bless ,tom

First thing to check for is blocked airflow. Check the dryer as well as the venting from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house good airflow is neccessary. You could remove the venting from the back of the dryer and run a load to see if that helps. Do not leave it off as it is exhausting lint and if a gas dryer spent fuel.

hi .thanks for the question .no the element does not go bad a little at a time. but the venting gets clogged up a little at a time . remove the venting and clean to the outside wall . also if the dryer is noisy you could have a blower problem. if the dryer is noisy .but check the venting thanks the appliance doc

take the vent hose out of your dryer and try to dry the clothes, if it works your dryer is fine and the vent is clogged
