We had a Car Guard alarm installed in our 2001 Camry when we bought it in 2002 (the dealer chose the brand). Apparently when it was installed the valet switch wasn't put in. We lost our last remote so we took it to a Toyota dealership. They removed two fuses, but the alarm still goes off whenever we crank the engine. They did get it to where it will shut off after 30 seconds, but that's it. Where should we go to get this repaired or replaced altogether? Should we go to a Toyota dealer, or Best Buy, or where? We're in the Atlanta/Marietta, GA, area, if that helps.
You should be able to get a replacement remote from the manufacturer. the remotes are code specific and without the remote the alarm will not go into bypass mode. the remote would be a cheaper route to go than to replace the whole unit. now if the unit is obsolete than the only alternative is to replace with a more updated version or a different brand all together. when you contact the manufacturer you will need model and serial number of the unit this will help them send you the right remote for it
