iFixitI have an older Murray riding lawn mower, whenever I engage the mower the engine dies, otherwise it runs .... My dr feild brush mower ... cuts off when I engage theblades. ... My Huskee only shut off once I put it in drive with the blade engage.
Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.
safety switch in the seat and in the brake. if one of those is open, engine will die when you engage the blades. Owners manual should have wiring diagram so you can bypass switches to test (if you have brake applied and are sitting in the seat and that is when it is dying).
check the "kill switch" they are usually located in the seating area. it senses for pressure or seat angle and will kill the mower if nobody is sitting on the mower. Good Luck
There is a safety switch under the seat that, if not activated, will cause the engine to die when you engage the blades. Lift up the seat and check that it hasn't come out of its mounting, and that the wire connectors are still on. If that all looks OK, unmount it and use a piece of tape to keep the button pushed in. Test the mower again. If that fixed it, it may just be the switch mounting needs to be adjusted. If pushing the button doesn't fix it, replace the switch. They are not expensive. Good luck!
make sure the battery is fully charged, check all electrical connections and clean them with vinegar and rinse well with demineralized water afterward.
Cody,
Yes, I am sitting when I do engage the blades on my craftsman zts 7500. All you do is pull/push the engaged button to your left well you are seated.
