Hello,

It sounds like the DC charging port on the laptop may be damaged, or it may be the power cord...here's how to tell:

First thing....remove the laptop battery, click the battery back onto the laptop and try again. If this doesn't help then read on...

When you put the laptop on the dock, it is getting it's power from the dock connector on the bottom of the laptop. When it is not on the dock, it gets power from your DC adapter. Soooo......take the laptop off the dock and plug the DC adapter into the laptop. Do you see ANY led's light up (on the laptop) when you plug the power cord directly into the laptop? If not, then your DC power adapter for the laptop is probably dead. If you DO see any led's light up when you plug the power cord directly into the laptop but the power button won't turn the laptop on, then the power button on the laptop is the problem.

Take your laptop to an electronics store, and see if they have any universal power adapters for laptops (they come with tips to fit all major laptop brands). Test your laptop at the store with their new power adapter. If this fixes it, then buy the adapter. If this does not fix it, then you should take it to a reputable service shop to get the power button repaired or replaced......or call HP if your laptop is still in warranty.

Hope this helps!

Joe

SOURCE: dock station for hp pavilion

You need to check the plug that plugs into the laptop to determine that you don't have a faulty lead or plug. Test it with a multimeter and wriggle the plug to see if the voltage reading remains steady. If it doesn't then it could be the lead and this is easily repaired.
You may be able to borrow an adapter to test your laptop's connector.
If you determine the fault is with the laptop then problem is most likely the connector socket on the laptop, it most likely need re-soldering onto the motherboard, or needs to be replaced. This requires the laptop to be dismantled completely.

A docking station would solve your problem because the docking station has its own power connector and you plug the existing power adapter into the docking station.
My HP is connected to a docking station, the other advantage is that the docking station has several more ports than the laptop which is useful.

Hi,
Remove the battery from the portable and disconnect the Ac adapter. Press and Hold down the power button for 15 seconds.

Reconnect the Ac adapter only and power on the system. If the system is doing the same . The motherboard on the computer has gone bad.

SOURCE: HP Elitebook 8540p is getting no video in docking station

The solution that resolved this problem On Bios version F.0E was:

  • Power up the unit off the docking station and plug it into the docking station.
  • Delete all copies of the COM1 port in the device manager.
  • Perform a restart on the docking station.
  • When you log back into windows go back into the device manager and redetect hardware.(You should now have 2 visable copies of the COM1 port. One will have a bang next to it.)
  • Delete both copies of COM1 and scan for hardware changes. (This should give you 1 good copy of the COM1.)
  • Power down the laptop, and take off the docking station.
  • Power it back up straight from the docking station and you will notice no more hangs when booting off the docking station
Enjoy...

SOURCE: hp 2510p not charging

If your laptop works fine while plugged in but stops working while unplugged it's likely that either your laptop battery is bad or your laptop is not charging the battery properly.

Below are steps that can be taken to help identify the cause of this issue.

Leave power plugged in

Make sure the computer has been charging from the power plug for at least two hours before attempting to unplug it.

Remove and reconnect battery

In some situations the battery can become loose.
Removing it and then put it back into the laptop.

Third-party utility

Use a third-party battery utility to determine the total capacity of the battery.

For example, BatteryCare is a free software utility capable of doing this.

Replace battery or AC adapter

If your computer is still in warranty we suggest skipping to the next step.

If the above steps have been completed, we suggest replacing the battery in the computer or AC adapter.

In most situations it's a bad battery.

hope this helps

Try removing the battery from the back and then running it directly through the AC adapter. Sometimes the battery and AC adapter have conflicts and it can cause a laptop to become inoperable.

If this doesn't fix the problem in any way, I would recommend trying a new battery or AC adapter.

hope this helps

I connect my B130 to an external display using a vga cable. Both screens work. But I am unable to turn my laptop's screen off using Fn F8

the screen wont go off unless you use a docking station. Once you are docked, you can close the notebook lid and use the machine like a desktop: with all your cables hooked into the station itself.

Power jack connection broken on HP Omnibook xe3

I bought a docking station (port replicator) off ebay, and it has worked great. I had a look at the motherboard, and the docking station uses a different connection for power than the damaged AC port. So in summary, yes a docking port should solve your problem.

If you can get a docking station for it you may be able to solve it that way.

No internet when docked.. needs network controller

Assume the docking station is powered. I have seen funny behaviour with my docking station. Sure way for it all to work is, everything off, fit to docking station, turn on with power button on docking station. Ensure network cable plugged before this.
