I built a web page on how to replace the tweeter on the MR8. Lots of good photos to help you with this problem. You can find it at: http://www.idahomojo.com/IdahoMojo/Mackie_MR8_Tweeter_Replacement.html Hope it works out for you!

If your warranty hasn't expired you might be well off to take it in to a Mackie dealer for the work. They also have a support number at (800)-898-3211 Mon. -Fri. 10 am - Noon and 1pm-3 pm Pacific time.

I have the same problem,i.e my hi-freq. went out. I`ve call Mackie and they told me the part cost around $31. I dont think you can access the driver from the back.i`ll mess with the front this week.

Yes, you must take the back off...then remove the screws (8) all the way inside by where the speakers mount. There are 6 around the edges and a couple on top / bottom. The dampening material around the inside obscures them so make sure you get them all. The plastic face will come apart and you will have access to the tweeter.

Hi, I have a Mackie MR8 that isn't putting out sound anymore.

I assume that you switched L and R monitors to verify the problem and so I would say that you have a amplifier failure issue. Knowing Mackie, they're probably using an output IC for amplication which although it took some time, has now completely died.

Me being an old-timer I can honestly say....Oh how I miss the discrete transistor and "thru-hole" component mounting days.

One of my MR8's has only its tweeter working, im guessing the bass driver might be blown? How can i test this though and be sure it is the bass driver and not just a simple electrical fault?

Open the unit and remove one wire from one of the woofer terminals and using an ohmmeter check the resistance between the terminals. It probably should be between 6 and 16 ohms... they don't give the specs on the speaker... if it is very high or infinite resistance, the voice coil is blown and you be re-coning or buying new speaker. These are close in speakers and intended for a small room for studio listening while mixing. If the speaker is OK, then the bass amp in the cabinet has a failure... pray, as that is cheaper to repair than a speaker.

Hi, I have a problem with both of my Mackie MR8s. They both play really quiet, like ridiculously quiet with no low end at all. They don't make that "clicking" sound when you turn them on either....

The woofers were likely the problem in the first place. DO an ohmmeter check on them.

Note that the ohmmeter often doesn't work for testing piezo tweeters, but does work for the woofers with voice coils.

Part # for tweeter in the Mackie MR8? I need 5

From a site:

Order new replacement tweeters from Mackie by contacting Mackie at: LOUD Technologies Inc.
  1. 16220 Wood-Red Rd NE

  2. Woodinville, WA 98072

  3. Phone (800) 258-6883

Ask for the tweeter for the MR5 & MR8 the part number might be 0030616. The price is about $31/tweeter

Very loud ground hum when turned on

If nothing is pluged into the speaker and it makes that noise. It is not a ground problem. You either have a blown amp or remotely some bad connection at the large filter caps.

What voltage and power from the transformer mackie mr8

This is just a hint as I was unable to find the schematic. Transformers VERY seldom fail, if you are getting anything out and the fuse is holding with no heating, the voltages are probably right.

Common voltaages seen after the rectifier and filter and regulators are +/- 15 volts and sometimes +5 volts. For the power amp they are usually between +/- 35 and 60 volts unregulated.

For small amps using the TDA2050 type amps, you will see aproximately +/- 24 volts DC unregulated.

What type of fuse would you use for Mackie tweeter?

I would contact Mackie and see what they say. The MR5 is already protected internally by the built in amplifier circuitry as far as I know. They can be reached here:http://www.mackie.com/support/index.html

Replace High Frequency Transducer (Tweeter) on

You should order an exact replacement from Mackie since this is a reference monitor.

Consider putting a limiter or fuse in series to protect the speakers if this was due to overdriving it.

I have mackie mr8's my left one, when powered on makes a loud buzzing sound...i have disconnected power and pre amo...reconnected and it still happens...whats wrong?

Sounds like a ground loop. MAKE SURE ALL of your equipment is fed from the SAME receptacle. Make sure the ground pin on the power cable is good (try another cord or swap). Swap the audio cable to verify the cable has a good ground.

Same here man...

These are Bi-Amped, that is have seperate amplifiers internal for the LF and HF.

First have to find if the amp or the actual speaker driver is bad.
