If your warranty hasn't expired you might be well off to take it in to a Mackie dealer for the work. They also have a support number at (800)-898-3211 Mon. -Fri. 10 am - Noon and 1pm-3 pm Pacific time.
I have the same problem,i.e my hi-freq. went out. I`ve call Mackie and they told me the part cost around $31. I dont think you can access the driver from the back.i`ll mess with the front this week.
Yes, you must take the back off...then remove the screws (8) all the way inside by where the speakers mount. There are 6 around the edges and a couple on top / bottom. The dampening material around the inside obscures them so make sure you get them all. The plastic face will come apart and you will have access to the tweeter.
