Power light comes on green, pic & audio comes on for 10 seconds, screen goes black, power light remains on, tv comes back on after 20 seconds, repeats process. Turn unit off and on - power light blinks red 5 time interval, hit "on" again, power light turns green, tv comes on & goes off as above. Picture very dull-almost looks blacks & grays, audio good. On Sony Blink Code explanations it states 5 red blinks is associated with the AKB circuit, but repairman tells me this is if tv has picture tube (ours doesn't). Done a lot of research, can this be the projection lamp needs replaced? Manual says there's a light that indicates when lamp needs replaced, but it isn't blinking, only power light. It looks like we can replace it ourselves - if so, should we buy one with the housing or just the bulb? Finding them on line for approx. $115-$150, Serviceman wants $200 for bulb & $200 labor! Symptom shows Lamp is weak in result and causing restart of TV again and again. Your TV requires new lamp as per following part number...
A1085447A* LAMP BLOCK ASSY XL-2200U
It is available in Sony Accessories Store for $200 and replacement procedure is written in instruction manual of TV.
Always buy Sony original lamp for TV and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamp for TV safety.
A1085447A is Sony part number of XL-2200 lamp.
Genuine is only available with Sony and few good part stores.
XL-2200 and XL-2200U are same, XL-2200 is came with TV and XL-2200U is replacement lamp. No difference at all.

My Sony KDF-E55A20 stopped working abruptly a few nights ago. It is almost 5 years old and now when I try to turn it on nothing actually comes on, not even the fans the only thing that happens is the power light blinks green 5 times. I have read online that 5 red blinks on the power light means that the lamp has failed, so I ordered a new lamp and replaced it. However, this did not change anything. The power light still only blinks green 5 times and then nothing else happens. Does anyone have any insight as to what the problem could be. Thanks.

I don't know where that Model # came from but my model is a KDF-E55A20 - it says in the manual it requires a XL-2200 bulb. Big thanks for your assistance!
What is the correct bulb number for the KDF-E55A20 Sony TV? I saw in the book it listed XL-2200 but Sony Accessories Store doesn't have that one listed - what's the diff between the XL-2200U and the XL-2200. Also, if searching websites, there are alot that state GENUINE part and are cheaper than the $200. thanks Dana
