Hi there I have a 1976 Chevy C20 pickup and I was wondering could low or to much fluid in the transmission make it hard or impossible to shift while its running it is a munci 4speed sm465

the level of oil in a manual transmission has little bearing in the shift operation of the transmission as all it does is lubricate the working parts
excessive oil will overload the input shaft seal and may cause oil getting to the clutch plate or leaking out of the drive shaft seal
However the quality of oil used will have a bearing on the shifting of the gears
If the oil is too heavy ( viscosity above 80 oep) it affects the ability of the synchro mechanisms to work especially in fast shifting requirements
if it is too low ( 30 or less) it affects the wear or the gears and bearings and again will not have the shear strength to allow the synchros to engage properly with out causing excessive wear
From your question and problem description, I suspect that the problem is not in the transmission or oil level but in the clutch operation
If the clutch plate is not properly disengaging, the engine revolutions will not allow the synchros of the gears to operate properly and make shifting near impossible
so check the oil used and the level and fill to the level specified by the manufacturer
check and adjust the clutch for correct operation as there may be a problem in the slave cylinder/ master cylinder / cable operation that is not allowing complete disengagement of the cluch

What might be the problem, after i shift the gear in DRIVE and the vihicle start running at normal speed, the speedometer goes off and the gear shift to low gear

Impossible to make an accurate diagnosis without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle. Generally, however, the problem you are describing sounds like a problem with the SPEED SENSOR.

There are bushings on the rods for the shift linkage. They are plastic and get brittle and fall apart. Block the wheels and get under it and have someone move the shifter and see where it is binding up or what bushings are missing. Make sure emergency brake is on also.

hi.

these can be adjusted, but the first thing to do is to change the entire gear cable.
spraying the whole thing with wd40 or simillar may help, but the lining of the outer cable has almost certainly worn and is causing the problem you are having.

this is very common. bike makers tend to use relatively cheap cables, and they can wear and cause problems quite easily.
oil the new cable before you fit it and you should not have any more problems.

hope this helps

Adjust the clutch again , and make sure you have sport trans ( HD ) in the primary. Also make sure your primary chain is adjusted correctly. as the bike gets hotter, the chain tightens up putting alot of pressure on the clutch pack as well as the stator ( your charging system )

Lighting problem while shifting

Guru is wrong, on this model the instrument cluster must be removed and sent for refurb. I have not found anywhere to buy parts to fix it. The dealer wants $400 to $500 CAD to fix, so far the cheapest I have found is a place in Manitoba that repairs for $170 with a 2 year warranty. Trying to find a used one is near impossible in Canada, only found 2 and they wanted $175 for it. I'll probably go for the $170 refurb as it has a warranty
