The most common cause of the problem you describe is a broken drive belt. This doesn't mean it is the only possibility, nor that it is the issue you are seeing, but based on your short description, this could be the drive belt. If you are mechanically inclined, you can replace it yourself, but if not, then contact your local appliance repair company to diagnose and replace whatever part needs it. If you open the back panel and see that the drive belt is broken, then this could be an easy fix. Here is a link to the drive belt that fits your dryer: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Speed-queen-Parts/Dryer-Parts/511255P/0026/250/Model-AES28AWF/1271/0151200?keySuffixId=&pathTaken=partSearch&pathRender=modelComponent&documentCompId=1101142P&diagramPageId=00009&productTypeId=&searchModelNumber=AES28AWF&subCompDesc=Motor/exhaust%20fan/belt&brandDesc=SPEED%20QUEEN&modelDesc=DRYERS&blt=11&shdMod=&keyId=7

Our DLB2650B Hotpoint dryer will not start. When I turn the start switch to on, something just hums, and that's it.

The thermal cut-off will just turn off the element if the thermostat fails to. Did you try troubleshooting the motor?

The drum on my kenmore 70 series dryer won't turn and the dryer won't get heat up either. The drum will start to turn if we take the lid off and manually push it but not automatically

The dryer will not heat till the motor starts . If the dryer makes a hum when you activate the start switch' but won't start, then either the motor switch is bad or full of lint. If there is no hum then the start switch may be bad.

When i turn the on switch i hear a humming as if it is going to start but it does not. my dryer brand is Frigidaire FEQ 332 E s

Depending on the hum you hear (if you hear the sound and it keeps humming) the belt that connects the motor and the drum is probably broken.

If the hum only happens when you turn the on switch, the motor has probably failed.

Maytag dryer mod #mde600ayw only makes a humming noise when start switch pushed will not turn.

a hum with a burning smell means the motor winding has failed.
you can try this: open the door and hold in the door switch, have another person hold the start button. You manually roate the drum by grabbing a fin and moveit while the unit is humming.IF the dryer starts, you need a motor.
Good Luck!

Dryer hums when start switch is turned

you don't have to "pop" the top off the dryer. the only thing you can do to possibly solve this problem without a professional is to:
  • tape down the door switch with strong tape, or have someone else hold it down.
  • physically turn the tub inside the dryer while pushing the start switch.
  • this will hopefully loosen whatever has the motor stuck.
if this does not work then the motor in the dryer might be bad or going bad, especially if a burning smell is present when you hear the humming sound.

GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part
