I had a friend who had a copy of xp, said the same thing. You have a copy of xp that has been registered with microsoft already. time to buy a copy. never good to get pirated copies of any software, esp operating systems.

Did you just purchase the computer, and it had Windows XP Professional "pre-installed"?
If so, the store that sold you the computer may have used a "counterfeit" copy of Windows, rather than using a "genuine" copy of Windows (which only cost them about $100).
Or, did you recently take the computer to a computer-store, for repair (such as after having a computer-virus), and did they reinstall Windows, again using "counterfeit" software?
Or, did a "friend" install Windows XP, using "counterfeit" software?
Follow the on-screen instructions, and use your credit-card to make an online purchase of a valid license-key for Windows XP Professional.
Or, purchase a copy of Windows 7, and install that software.
That message ("you may be a victim of software counterfeiting") is displayed when your Windows serial number is being used by someone else. If your copy of Windows is legitimate, try contacting Microsoft support.

If you purchased the software (you may need a copy of the receipt) you can contact microsoft and they will assist you in getting a valid key for your PC.
If someone installed the software for you, then you may be a victim of counterfeiting and the only recourse is to obtain a legal liscense of Windows XP.
message appearing on the screen that you may be a victim of software counterfeiting.this copy of windows did not pass geneuine windows validation. hiiii this is msg displayed on my screen software counterfeiting, did not pass genuine windows validation problem,
This means the Windows Validation Tool has checked your installed copy of Windows and has found it to be a non-genuine copy. This means the product key is non valid.
Where did you get the PC? If a "friend" installed Windows for you then he is using illegal product keys.
If you are sure your Windows is genuine, you need to telephone Microsoft and fight it out with them.
your using pirated software. it will work no worries about that. you can not update it anymore. to update and be safe from internet threats you need to install genuine Windows XP.
So you have installed windoes and input your COA sticker from Microsoft? If this is true then you can call them to get it validated. The number I found for you is (888) 352-7140. Resolved.
