That is an older turntable and may require a "phono" input (a designated input--not just an RCA phono plug).  Newer stereo systems may not have a phono input and you may have to feed the turntable through a pre-amplifier to get enough power to run it with a standard component line input (like Tape or Aux).

Hi
you need to connect to the stereo using a pre amp as the output from a magnetic cartsidge is very low.

HOW TO CONNECT A TECHNICS SL-BD22D TURNTABLE TO A TECHNICS SC-CH550 SYSTEM OR WHAT TURNTABLE DO I NEED?

If they are both Technics they should connect. There should a pair of connector holes on the back of the turntable, most likely a pair of 'Phono' jacks. Round connectors, one marked in red and the other marked in white. It may be marked as a "AUX OUT", "PHONO OUT" or "AUDIO OUT".
On the back of the System on the top section, (Marked as 'stereo sound processor''), there should be a matching pair of round connectors marked as "PHONO". Connect the turntable using a good quality phono cable matching the red to red and white to white. Personally I would recommend the gold plated type cable. They are usually reasonably cheap and easy to find.
You might have to change a setting on the system where you switch between radio and CD player to hear the turntable. It is often marked as 'AUX'.

I need to to hook up my turntable to my bose system

As long as the Bose has a spare audio socket you can do it. You however will need a device called a "Magnetic Cartridge Preamp". Otherwise all you will hear is the sound at a very low level.

I PURCHASED A LIKE NEW TECHNICS SL BD27 TURNTABLE. I HOOKED THE RCA AUDIO JACKS TO THE AUDIO INPUT ON MY SONY TV AND GET VERY LOW SOUND LEVEL WHEN TV VOLUME CONTROL IS AT MAX. REPLACING CARTRIDGE AND...

Yes you need a pre amp

It would also be the same if you connected it to a computer to record an LP to CD. Mine is a little different and has one already built in that I can switch in and out of line.

Try spend a little more if you can as many pre amps can introduce noise.

You may also want to check that the turntable is properly grounded to prevent noise too

Technics SL-BD22 ground wire does not reduce hum. Any solutions?

presuming it has "some" effect, then gnd wire itself it good. Even though there may be a gnd thumbscrew on the preamp try slipping the ground wire under a screw on the main amp or receiver that screws into metal and make sure the gnd wire is touching metal under the screw.

if that didn't help, then you may have:
>a cartridge with an open gnd internally.
>an open gnd wire from the back of the cartridge to the outer shields of the RCA connectors.
>or your neutral & hot wires of your house wiring might be reversed causing something weird.
>a low quality preamp. (it should have a seperate wall adaptor so that only low voltage dc goes near the preamp)
good luck ground issues can be tough!

New cartridge for Technics SL -BD22D

the prestige gold might be a little bit of overkill for this turntable meaning the turntable is middle of the road and the cartridge is hi-end.

To get a closer match for your TT try a yahoo search for "AT3482P-DE" (with the quotes) and the result will be the closest match to what this turntable is designed for. also you can find your TT's owner manual here
http://www.vinylengine.com/library/technics/sl-bd22d.shtml but you will have to register to download the free manual. in that manual you will find the shape of the drawings for the cartridge is the same. both made by audio technica
