sir, is there any other switches or valves between the tub and water pump and if not then with the new water pump and belt it should just pump water out unless something is clogged in drainline but if that was the case wouldnt the drain tube overflow on the floor,? its a mav6200 maytag washer

  • barb_kenny May 21, 2009

yes it will because when i diconnected it from the pump all the water came rushing out and i caught it in a large bucket

  • barb_kenny May 21, 2009

the water from the tub came rushing through the blcak plastic pipe that was connected to the water pump i caught this with a lg pail.

it seems there may be a clog in the drain line in the wall but i would think that it should backup and overflow?

  • barb_kenny May 21, 2009

i put it all back together so i cant blow through the drain line ,the drain hose is duck taped to the drain pipe so it would not fall out but i sealed it good and i did not want to take tape off and all that but i guess i donrt have a choice

should i take drain line out of drain tube then fill tub and lay hose on floor if it drains does that meen there is a clog in drain tube in the house plumbing?

at this point i think i put a new pump and belt on for no reason as the old one looked good although it make kind of like a tinney, clank, sound when the washer went into the drain cycle

thank you for your help and time GOD BLESS

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

HI, Try blowing through the drain hose and see if you can hear it bubbling inside the tub. You might have to remoave some of the water first. When you had the water out to change the pump, did you check the tub outlet to see if there was anything in it?
    Just some ideas.
    I hope it helps.

As long as the washer is running in the spin cycle, it should drain. The plug I am talking about is in the machine hoses. Sometimes a belt can jump off the pump pulley and not spin it fast enough. If you set the hose in a bucket or floor drain, will the washer drain?
There are no other switches that control the pump.

If you still have the hose off, try blowing through the drain hose that is attached to the pump.
Is the drain hose from the washer fastened solid to the wasll drain? Some people clamp the drain hose to the wall drain.

This model is known for the pump going bad so, even if this wasn't the problem, it probably would of needed changed in the future. Yes, remove the hose and seen if it drains with water in it. The duct tape could of sealed good enough that you couldn't tell if the wall drain was plugged. With the tape off, you might just leave the drain hose in the wall drain and after you fill the machine, start the drain cycle and see if the wall drain starts to overflow.

How to change a water pump

First drain the coolant if possible (you will find a drain **** on the bottom drivers side of rad). Loosen the water pump pulley bolts while serpentine belt still attached (10mm X 4). Remove the serpentine belt, and plastic diagram bracket just above the waterpump. Remove the (8mm bolts X 5) holding the water pump to front engine housing. Note the little arrow or triangle at the top of waterpump when removing, it will help you to install new water pump in same location. Scrape off most of the old gasket material, use fine sand paper to clean engine surface as best as possible. Install new gasket to water pump, and align the holes (it only goes on one way, and maybe upside down if they don't line up). Locate arrow and reinstall, torque 5 bolts to 89 in/lbs tight but not too tight. Reinstall pulley, serpentine belt and bracket. Tighten the pulley bolts, refill coolant (close drain ****). Just above the waterpump there is a coolant hose with a little 7mm screw for a bleeder. Open the bleeder (engine off). Continue to fill rad with coolant until it comes out bleeder. Close bleeder and test run. Recheck the coolant level later when cooled.
