Akai TV troubleshooting

Help! I was just watching television and it shut off suddenly. The on/off light just blinks red but the tv won't turn back on. I've had it for less than 6 months.

What do you think this might be?

I have an AKAI televison that is just over a year old. Over the last couple of months it will just shut off suddenly. There is really no rhyme or reason. Some times it has been on for 20 minutes and it will shut off and other times it can be on all day before it shuts off. And then within 5-10 minutes I can turn it back on again. It has plenty of room to vent and keep cool so it shouldn't overheat but the TEMP light will flash along with the stand by light when this happens????

I am experiencing the same exact problem. The red light just blinks, and no picture appears.

Some TV's have an Auto Turn Off Function, when there is no signal or
user input for 15 minutes, the tv shuts off. I dont think I like this
feature. I am trying to find my manual so maybe I can disable this part.

  • jerriarizona Jun 12, 2008

We're having the same problem. The light turns green, then reverts to red. Sometimes if you unplug the TV you can get it to turn back on, but even that is an inconsistent solution. What can we do to fix it?

  • ednelaine Jun 25, 2008

when I turn my TV on,the green light comes on and then it goes right back off. I don't know what to do.

  • cherlitta Jul 02, 2008

Won't turn on, red light just blinks 3 or 4 times then nothing. First time this has happened since I bought it 4 years ago.

  • Anonymous Jul 04, 2008

I had same problem on my 18 mos old 32" Akai. I paid about $1000. The repair cost for a new signal board will cost $450, if they can find one. Akai TV's seem to be of very low quality. It is a shame because they used to be very reputable. I am thinking of just letting it go and getting another set from a different manufacture

My TV shuts off automatically also. It will not come on usually immediately. I generally have to wait a little while. It has been doing this for a couple years and is just frustrating. Could the TV be getting hot and auto shutting off because of it?

I bought an akai maybe 10 months ago and all of a sudden it stopped working. I push the power button on the TV or remote and it blinks on and off too fast to count to one. My boyfriend thinks it might be the power box. Is there any way just to buy the powerbox by itself. Well this will the last time I buy this brand.

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2009

I have an Akai LCT2701TD 27" wide-screen TV/DVD player combo. My TV cut off one night with a DVD stuck inside and would not cut back on too. I took the small side panel off and remove the DVD and the TV did start to work again. The next night I tried to turn the TV on, it powers up, but now the source button only goes to DVD and VGA. I can not get it to move to any other sources to watch the TV at all now. The problems seem to be in TV's purchased from 2006 to 2007 if you look on other consumer sites you will see that they are having problems with Akai TV's as well. I am going to call seven on your side to see if they can get enough proof on the manufacturer of making bad products or using faulty parts. This may takes some time, but we all have TV's that are now used as dust collectors. I urge you to locate your local news station and place a complaint against a Akai company.

  • kmarie0201 Mar 23, 2009

I have the 37inch dvd combo which I bought in Nov 2006.  It is now March 2009.  The other day I tried to turn the tv on.. No dice.  I tried changing out the power plug but that didnt work ither.  my symptoms are also the red light flashing when I try the power button both by remote and manually.  So the problem is somewhere on the inside.  I wont even try to contact support on this.  If anyone has the answer to this issue it would be nice to atleast fix it and give it to a family member.  We went out and got a Vizio today.  It clearly has a better reputation and is a familiar name.

Hey People, Try removing the small panel in the back and when you open it, you will see a little plastic trigger that moves in and out. Try taping it back. It worked for me. I guess it's a trigger (cheap cheap) in order for the tv to turn off when you do open that panel, for safety reasons, but its very finniky. Good luck - trial and error! PS. - won't be getting this brand again.

  • do what Nov 07, 2009

I have read a lot correspondence about fairly new AKAI TVs not working properly, including my own. I suggest we all flood the company with complaints (in writing or via email) and demand a response with 10 day or so. Include in the correspondence how you would like the problem to be resolved. Then contact the Better Business Bureau (in writing or via email) to let them know this consumer product doesn't work, and the makers and the salers of the product will not fix it. Maybe this will at least raise enough attention to have the maker of AKAI investigated and no more consumers will get ripped off.

I have an Akai 42 inch hd projection tv which is 4 years old. Last week it started flashing the picture when I turned it on. Last night light grey/black lines appeared, verticle about every 3 inches. Can this be repaired for a fair price or is it time to junk it? It is tolerable but not the best to watch.

I have the same problem. My Akai 27" flat screen shuts off inconsistantly. Sometimes it will stay on for hours and then we have to turn in on every 2 minutes. It seems to be getting worse. Is there anyone who has found a way to fix this?

It should be under warranty if you bought it new 6months ago so exercise your right to repair under warranty. The problem could be a dry joint somewhere or in the power supply or horizontal oscillator/driver or EHT section. It may be hard to accept, but the youthfulness of any piece of electronic equipment is no guarantee against failure at any moment! That is why even the manufacturer has to put a warranty on it, becuse they can't predict or prevent that happening. The Warranty you get is part of the sales pitch that tries to get you to believe that you are in some way immune to this affecting you for the warranty period. I have had to repair many failed consumer goods before they even made it from the warehouse to the shop floor, let alone your own lounge room!
I hope you feel at least enlightened although I do not doubt you remain displeased.

I may have found it! For all of you with an AKAI, and it is shutting off on you, or won't turn on, try this. I decided to take the "small" panel off in the back (not the whole back). There is a small trigger that can be pushed back and forth - it gets pushed back when you put the panel back on (or it should). I found when I put the panel back on, the trigger wasn't getting pushed back all the way. You will notice that if you push the trigger in the whole way, and get another person to turn the tv on in the front, it should stay on, then let go, you will see that the tv will turn off. Basically all I did was tape this trigger so that it is all the way back, put the panel back on, and watch tv without the damn thing turning off! As well I did notice that there was a piece of black plastic left over that I can't seem to find where it goes - maybe it was part of the panel that pushed this trigger the whole way back - not sure. All I know is that the tv has not shut off yet - could it be that easy? Hopefully - good luck. I definitely will not go with AKAI again, will have to spend the extra dollar next time.

Hey!
I found an Akai TV on the side of the road. On the first day of fidgeting with it, I noticed that every time I flick the switch that is under the TV in the lower left corner, the little light in the lower right corner blinks an orange color. I only got it working once by flicking the switch under the TV off so the orange blinking light turned red. Before the light went black, I flicked the switch back on and the red light stayed. I then pressed the "Stand By On" button and it came on and I was able to watch a movie! I tried it again the next day and day after that, but nothing happened (when I made the red light stay and pressed the Stand By On button, it just kept blinking an orange color). I would suggest not buying an AKAI TV to any one. These TVs are junk and now I have to go in the terrible process of trying to fix the darn thing!!

DON'T BUY AN AKAI PRODUCT! I PURCHASED A 42" FLAT PANEL HD T.V. FROM eCOST.COM. THE PICTURE WENT OUT COMPLETELY! eCOST WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND IT AND AKAI DID NOTHING BUT GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND.

The solution at this point would be to get the power supply repair since new boards are not longer being manufactured. In about 95% of the time if the LCD doesn't power up or turns OFF by itself or need to be unplug for some time to make work again; those are the symptoms of a dying or defective power supply.

TV suddenly shut off, blinking red light in power button

The TV's power supply capacitors probably went bad.

Check with a mobile tv repair co. to see if it is worth fixing.

Akai PT5598HDX/SMS won't turn on

Just a thaught, I could be wrong, maybe a problem with the power button on the remote ? It might shut the TV off, and when you do keep pressing the remote button, the red light on the TV will keep flashing like that also. Ive seen this prob on a few other blogs, so seems to be pretty common. I know I like to keep the remote pointed at the TV all the time, maybe try pointing it away for a while, just to see.

Akai Plasma TV's screen suddenly went blank -model PDP4294

Same thing for me. TV just turned off one day and won't come back on. LED flashes red. Someone said it's because a cooling fan went out. If I can't find someone to fix it I'll take it apart and tinker myself. 32" with dvd built in was barely over a year old.
