The original software that came with the machine had a "straighten" feature that worked well on crooked scans ... but this s/w cannot be used with the Win7 I now have. I have to use the Win7 "Fax and Scan" program which doesn't have a "straighten" command for crooked scans. Any ideas on how to straighten my scans? Thanks!
I use 'Photoscape' as my Samsung does not have auto-straightening.
Photoscape is a free download.
First load the scan into either MS PAINT or Photoscape and add generous white borders.
Then load the bordered image into Photoscape and select the rotate symbol that looks like a curved arrow.
Slide the control left or right until scanned image aligns with grid overlay.
Then crop and save.
You'll notice that as the image is rotated, it zooms in or out.
This is why pre-made borders are added, to prevent cropping.
Does this info help?
Regards, Clive.

What you seem to want to do is not possible. Let me explain:
A file that has its data in the Adobe company Portable Document Format (or a pdf file) contains various objects that are described to the computer using a superset of the PostScript language, some of them can be images.
A file that comes from the scanner is first a very organized set of pixels and gets put into a more compact form by using a well known process as defined by the Joint Motion Picture Experts group. This is a roundabout way of saying that it has a format that isn't PDF.
What you CAN do:
a) open the jpeg file with a Macintosh, using the Print command from the file menu make a pdf file that has the image in it.
b) buy and install a PDF printer driver on a Windows machine, and then follow the same process as A above.
c) Use your favorite PDF creation program to make a file with the image embedded.

SOURCE: Bold black lines across the paper when printing, scan or copy not on faxing
I realise this is probably too late for you Janet and you will have bought a new drum unit by now or replaced the printer! The three lines appeared on my print-out from a new drum I installed and after investigation it transpired that there was some toner residue that had dried on the drum (from testing at manufacture stage probably) and reprinted three bold lines on a sheet of A4. The solution is to use a soft piece of cloth and rub the lines off the drum through the gap at the front of the drum unit. The drum can be rotated by turning the gear cog on the side, then once the reside has been removed from the drum and it is clean, the lines will have disappeared. I wouldn't use any solution on the drum, just gentle rubbing should suffice.
