Chances are the old belt came off in the first place because it stretched over time. Get a new belt, install it and you should be in good shape.

Howdy, I have an old spacesaver washer/dryer and everything works but the spin cycle. The belt burnt a couple days ago because I may have put too much laundry into the machine. Now the clothes come out...

the belt is probably coming of because the bearings in the drum are shot and if thats the case you might as well by a new one cause its so expensive to do a bearing job you can spin the drum around by hand and back and forward to see if its spinning smoothly if it seems ok then get a belt from your local appliance spares place and put it on yourself.

I replaced the head gaskets on my subaru forester and now it will not start posibble timing prob

It sounds like you might have it a little out of whack, probably a good thing did it didn't start, you could have messed it up bad. Why did you replace the head gaskets?? Was it overheating? Were the gaskets bad? Did you mark the cams and belt before you took them off? Did you get a new belt? I would pull the spark plugs out, take the rocker covers back off, take the belt off, watch the cams, bring them around to their mark, bring the crank around to it's mark, make sure it is easy to spin, if not, you are hitting something. get the crank and the cams aligned on their marks and put the new belt with the marks on the belt aligned to the marks on the cam and crank. If the belt doesn't have marks, get one that does. Or put the marks on there. Check the old belt and see if it has marks on it. They help a lot. Once you get the belt on there and the tensioner set, spin the engine by hand and make sure it spins free, It should come around to the TDC mark on the crank again and again. Unless you forgot to hook something up, like the coil pack or a couple wires here and there. Check it out, Hope this helps.

I have an older kenmore 70 series dryer. the belt broke and im trying to figure out where the pulley is supposed to go and how the belt is supposed to go

If you are referring to the tension pulley that keeps the belt tight on the drum, it is common for it to come loose when the belt breaks because there is no longer any tension holding it in place. Just follow these steps to reinstall:

1. Make sure the drive belt is looped around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place with your left hand, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and refer to diagram H.

If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate around the dryer door opening) so that I may be able to confirm your dryer configuration. I hope this helps you.

Belt spins but tub won't somtimes during spin cycle

Worth going at this a bit at a time.

First look at the routing of the belt. What keeps it tight? has anything that ought to be keeping it tight worked loose?

Now take the belt off and spin the tub by hand. Does it move freely? Does it make any funny noises? Does the motion feel lumpy or gritty? This will help you decide whether you have a bearing problem or an old sock that's got where it shouldn't have.

If either of these tests hints at a problem, investigate further and fix it.

Then, regardless of whether you found or fixed anything, fit a new belt. Quite often the problem is just that as they get old, they stretch and then don't grip so tightly - and if it has been slipping because something else was loose or stuck, the heat generated will since have made it stretch anyway.

Belt came loose

BELTS DON'T JUST FALL OFF THERE MUST BE AN UNDER LYING PROBLEM.WHEN YOU FIGURE THAT OUT TO PUT THE BELT ON GET ON YOUR HANDS AND KNEES
REACH IN ONE ARM ON EACH SIDE UNDERNEATH THE DRUM WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND GRAB THE BELT (BE SURE ITS NOT TWISTED) WRAP IT AROUNG THE MOTOR PULLEY.
HOLD IT THERE, NOW WITH THE LEFT HAND PUSH THE TENSIONER PULLEY TOWARDS THE MOTOR
THE BELT SHOULD GO OVER THE MOTOR PULLEY FROM THE RIGHT SIDE. SO IF HOOKED UP CORECTLY THE BELT WILL GO DOWN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TUB-AROUND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TENSIONER PULLEY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTOR PULLEY THEN BACK UP THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRUM
GOOD LUCK=)

Washer will not agitate but will spin

You are correct that motor turns one direction for agitate and the other for spin. The problem you describe sounds serious but there is a chance it is not. First, try to turn the transmission by hand. If it wont turn by hand, remove the agitator and see if something has gotten under it and has it locked to the basket. To remove the agitator, pop off the top cap and look down inside. You will see the bolt that holds the agitator on. After you take it loose the agitator will slide off.

If there is nothing there, the transmission will need to be replaced. If the washer is less than 5 years old, the transmission may still be covered by warranty. Check your owners manual for warranty details. Post back to let me know what you find out.
