Whirlpool AWZ410 washer/dryer: Drum not revolving. Belt OK bearings on drum and motor sound ok and nice smooth. Unable to determine cause of motor inoperative. Is there a fault finding procedure to determine why. Thought it could be programmer error or faulty/ broken switch somewhere but have no diagnostic flow chart. I have ability to fault find using a multimeter and have got some kind of schematic circuit diagram of sorts.

SOURCE: have a whirlpool gb awz2303 heats ok but drum

By what your saying, yes the drum belt is stretched and or is sliding out of track. You can check this by removing the back panel, be sure to shut or unplug power first, then you will be able to see what i am talking about. hope this helps

SOURCE: The dryer makes a new noise now when the drum is

You have done a good job of isolating the noise. Sounds like you will have to replace your drive motor. Very likely a mechanical problem in your motor, that is not going to fix itself. If you continue to run your dryer with the noise coming from your motor, you run the risk of the motor burning out electrically and causing a fire or a shock hazard. It is unlikely that this will happen, but it is possible and thereby not worth the risk of getting shocked or having a fire. The Whirlpool Duet Dryer is the best dryer built, so it is worth replacing the motor. Good luck, Appliance Specialists

Dryer making screeching noise

This can only be caused by a few things

Belt slipping.
Idler wheel tight and causing the belt to screech.
A very outside change it is the rear drum bearing or motor bearings.

Take the top off, put a length of plastic tub in you hand and follow the sound.

There are several possible causes of a squealing dryer, including unlevel installation, damaged drum bearings, a faulty drive belt, a worn out idler pulley, a damaged roller shaft or a malfunctioning motor. Discovering the cause of your squeaky dryer can help you determine how to resolve the issue.

I have a whirlpool gas dryer. One of the drum rollers keep getting shredded and breaking only after a couple of hours of use. I have now replaced both drum rollers 5 times in the last 6 weeks.

Did you lube the bearing surfaces of the new rollers with a good lube? Is the shaft surface for the bearing smooth? Do the new rollers wobble on the shaft (very bad)? Do your have the drum on straight and is it riding on the felt surface in front ok? Do the rollers turn easily after you install them or are they jammed up for some reason? What does the surface on the drum where the rollers ride look like? Does the idler pulley for the belt hold the belt steady in the correct place on the drum or does it wobble around? I have serviced these rollers on many occasions and they last a long time. The felt in front should be both in front of the drum and reach across the outer front edge of the drum. Sometimes it get all bunched up at one spot in front of the drum without wrapping around the outside too. I put the bottom in first and then use a J shaped piece of bent tin to guide it in on top where I can't see it.

Dryer drum has become very stiff and won't turn smoothly.

OK, you will need to check the blower and the motor or any blockage. You have have an article of clothing hung in the blower or a dryer sheet on the motor etc... The best way to test the drum, blower and motor is to remove the belt and spin each one individually. Post back the results. I also have the service manual for that unit if you should need it.

My Kenmore 80 Series electric dryer is smoking, it isn't the lint so does anyone have an answer?

Hi, their is 2 possible cause the first and most likely cause is going to be the belt is slipping and getting hot and causing the smoke, this could be due to the belt being loose or the drum bearing may be seizing and could need replacing. try turning the drum by hand to see how easy it is.

now the second problem could be that the motor is over heating due to the drum bearing failing or even the motor itself failing, see how easy it is to turn the drum if its quite easy and feels smooth then the chances are the belt needs replacing, if its stiff to turn or feels rough then this could be drum bearing or motor failing.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

Tumble dryer works ok but its really really noisy.

Sounds like you have a bad drum bearing. It's seems loud because the clothes drum aplifies the noise. Depending how old it is will determine if repairing is worth the cost. Once you have decided that, replace the drum belt and check all bearings including motor. Clean out all lint which can become a fire hazard.

Whirlpool dryer drum making noise

window.google_render_ad();There are many places & parts that could be causing your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy. To find out what is causing the noises, you need to find out where are the noises coming from.
Start the dryer and let it run for a while and listen to try to pinpoint where in the dryer the noises is coming from. Once you have an idea of the area, you will need to disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet and take the dryer apart.
Below you will find the parts that you need to check when your dryer is noisy.
The drum baffles:

The drum baffles are use to tumble the clothes inside of the drum, in other words, the baffles job is to separate the pieces of laundry as the drum turns.
When the dryer is getting older and if you use the dryer a lot, the drum baffles holding screws will become loose. Loose drum baffles will cause noises. All you need to do, is to open the top panel and tighten the drum baffles holding screws.
The drum support rollers:

These dryers uses four drum support rollers, tow on the front and two on the rear. The job of the drum support rollers is to keep the drum tumbling smooth.
When the grease on one of the rollers dry out, the roller start to make squeaking noises and the roller bearing will start to wear out until the bearing on the roller is gone. When the bearing on the roller is gone, the noise will change from squeaking to a clanking noise.
The blower wheel:

The blower wheel is use to circulate the air inside of the dryer drum. The most common Whirlpool blower noises are cause by something falling inside of the blower housing and hitting the blower when the motor runs.
The Idler pulley:

The Idler pulley is use to apply the necessary tension on the belt. There are two types of idler pulleys, the pulley with the wheel and the pulley with the teflon slide. A bad idler pulley could cause a Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
The drive motor:

Worn out bearings on the motor will cause the motor to run kind of noisy. When the motor starts making noises, the solution to this problem is to replace the motor.
The belt:

The belt on most dryers is only about1/4 inch wide. These belts work very hard making the drum tumble. When the belt stretch just 1/2 inch more that it supposed to, the belt will start slipping and that could cause your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
As you could see, there are a lot of parts that could become noisy in your dryer. When your dryer starts making noises, make sure to check it out before it gets worse.

KENMORE DRYER

Hello ENRIGHT11 Welcome to Fixya
My name is Huum,

You said,
DRYER MAKES VERY LOUD NOISE WHEN RUNNING. ALTHOUGH IT HEATS UP AND BEGINS TO DRY, IT STOPS RUNNING COMPLETELY AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES. IF YOU WAIT AN HOUR, YOU CAN START IT AGAIN, BUT IT AGAIN SOUNDS VERY LOUD (ALMOST A RATTLING SOUND) AND THEN SHUTS OFF AFTER 5 MINUTES

Faulty Blower Wheel

If you hear a great deal of noise coming from the blower area of the dryer when it is running, then the blower wheel could be defective.

The are many different designs for blower wheels and just as many unique failure modes. Vanes (fins) can break off the wheel and bounce around in the blower breaking more pieces. The blower can break around the coupler with the shaft. This can cause the blower to spin loosely on the shaft. The blower can form cracks which cause it to vibrate, etc.

You should also not be surprised to find foreign debris in the blower. The occasional bird, rodent or squirrel has been known to bypass the out vent cover. If they crawl into the exhaust tube the first thing they come into contact with is the blower wheel.

If the blower wheel is not spinning, or if it is missing vanes, it is not moving air efficiently. As a result, heat is not removed from the heat source and it can trip the high limit switch or blow the thermal cut-off.
Worn Belt
A worn belt can stretch and/or become brittle with age. The belt can then slip on the drum or motor to cause squeaking. If this is the case, the solution is to replace the worn belt.

The belt is not the only item that can cause squeaking. It can also be caused by a faulty idler pulley, worn drum bearings, worn drum glides or worn drum rollers depending on brand and style.

When replacing the Belt is is a good idea to also change the Drum Support Rollers, Drum Glides, Idler Pulley and Clips. All of these items are economical easily changeable when replacing the belt. The upside is that your dryer will operate like new.

Recent Customer Symptoms:
Dryer makes loud noise when turned on. Dryer works and heats up OK but makes too much noise.
Worn Drum Glides
Some dryer models are equipped with Drum Glides. The front of the dryer rests on these glides. They provide a low friction surface on which the drum spins. After time however, this glides wear down. Much like an automobile brakes, these glides make a load grinding noise when they wear thin. This griding against the drum usually leaves a bare metal stripe that is visible at the point of contact. If the glides are worn, the solution is to replace them.

The drum glides not the only items that can cause squeaking. It can also be caused by a faulty idler pulley, worn drum bearings, a worn belt or worn drum rollers depending on brand and style.

Worn Rear Drum Bearing
Some dryer models are equiped with a Rear Drum Bearing. The rear of the drum rests on this bearing. It provides a low friction surface on which the drum spins. After time however, this bearing will wear down. If the bearing is worn, the solution is to replace it.

The rear drum bearing not the only item that can cause squeaking. It can also be caused by a faulty idler pulley, worn drum glides, a worn belt or worn drum rollers depending on brand and style.

Worn Drum Support Rollers
Some dryers such as Whirlpool/Kenmore brands are equipped with Rear Drum Support Rollers. The weight of the dryer drum rests on these rollers. They provide a low friction surface on which the drum spins when in operation. After time however, these rollers wear down. When they wear, often times they begin to elongate and form a non-round 'cam' shape. The result is that when the dryer is turned on it creates a rumble that sounds as though you are trying to dry a pair of tennis shoes. This sound is usually the drum being forced up and down on the non-round wheels. If the rollers are worn, the solution is to replace them.

When replacing the Drum Rollers it is a good idea to also change the Front Drum Glides, Drum Belt, Idler Pulley and Clips. All of these items are economical and easily changeable when replacing the glides. The upside is that your dryer will operate like new. Whirlpool
Kenmore models have a dryer maintenance kit that contains all of these items in a single kit.

Kenmore oasis washer noisy when spinning

Hi, your probably right about the bearing its usually hard to tell untill they have compltely gone have you tried turning the drum by hand to see if it turns smoothly if it does then it could be the motor thats noisy both can be replaced but the drum bearing is a nighmare trust me you need pullers and its hard work.
So try turning the drum by hand and see if you can feel any roughness or catching this would tell you if the drum bearing has gone.
Let me know the outcome ok
