Could be the element, thermal overload, loss of one leg of the AC supply, a burned off wire or timer. Do you have fuses or circuit breakers? If you have breakers reset the breaker and see if the heat works. If you have fuses check each with an ohm meter. One leg of the 110VAC will run the motor but you need 220VAC to make the element heat. (that is if this is a 220VAC dryer).

SOURCE: Dryer suddenly does not produce hot air

have the exact same problem, just over 1 year old no heat! first off my duct work under my floor is like a snake and is not a straight shot out of the house. I beleive this caused a ristriction in the venting because dyer seemed to be running hotter them normal. I took the top off the dryer and pulled the vent tube out of the bottom of the dryer. To my surprise found a three inch layer of lint on the bottom of the machine and also on the heating coil. After cleaning out all the lint i took a volt meter to the two wires that come down to the heater. started the dryer and found i had 220volts at the heater indicating the heater is out, found one on ebay for about 50 bucks. will be installing this weekend and will let you know how it works.

SOURCE: dryer heats up but takes

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Blowing cold air

This model dryer has two heating elements, one for the top and one for the bottom, I suspect that the bottom element is burned out. If you want to attempt it yourself then I can send you a service manual that will walk you step by step through the whole dryer.

Whirlpool dryer is not drying properly. Have to go through a couple of cycles to dry clothes.

2 things are needed to dry clothes. 1 is good air flow. Check to make sure that the dryer vent is not clogged or partially clogged with lint. Also make sure there are no kinks in the vent hose. With the dryer running you should feel good air flow blowing out of the outside house vent. The 2nd thing a dryer needs heat. Check to see that the dryer feels warm to hot when you reach in to tough the clothes. It is possible that the heat element has partially failed. Another thing to investigate is how well the laundry machine is spinning out the water in the spin cycle. This spin cycle is used to get as much water out as possible prior to placing the clothes in the dryer. The wetter the clothes when they come out of the laundry, the longer it takes to dry them.

Whirlpool Dryer (model lg5791xmw1) blows cold air. I switched out the igniter, dryer heated up and we put a load of laundry in. Checked in a half hour and dryer was running cold again. Thermal fuse?

no, cause thats a one shot deal, check your hi-limiy switch on the element case, they get weak from heat and can cause all kinds of (Under-Overheat) problems

Dryer will run for a second and sound three beeps and stops.

Sounds like the door switch has gone bad., but your description is confusing.

First, it takes a few minutes for you to feel the air blowing hot, particularly when the dryer is in a cold garage. The heating elements have to heat up the mass of the metal, and any clothes in the dryer.

The timer design is such that it can not speed up (the motor inside wont start running faster, due to it's electrical design.).

I am suspect that the door switch has failed for some reason, because reading between the lines, I think you are saying when you release the Start button, the dryer quits operating. If the door switch is bad, then it will cause that condition to happen.
