Stitches won't lock

I have a pfaff 2040 and am having problems with the stitches skipping. Some fabrics, flannels, do better than others, less expensive cottons. While doing a straight stitch or blanket stitch I can't get the top thread to connect with the bottom and lock. Any suggestions? I have re threaded, changed thread spools, cleaned dust from the bobbin area, and oiled. Please help!!

SOURCE: first 5 stitches my thread tabgles

I believe it is recommended to hold each thread until the stitching gets started, see your manual. I make sure the slack is removed from each thread just before putting the presser foot down, then just put a finger on the threads, clamping them between your finger and the sewing bed, until a few stitches are done. This can be done through the material being sewed.

SOURCE: I have the upgraded 2140.

It sounds like the problem is actually with the needle thread, remove the spool from the machine, raise the preser foot to the up postiton and the rethread the machine.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: bobbin thread is pulled through fabric on zigzag stitch

You need to adjust the tension of the stitching, it sounds as if the top stitch tension is looser than the lower in the bobbin.

My pfaff hobbymatic 875 is skipping thread on the bobbin side

Be sure to use a brand new needle. If the needle is bent or damaged, it will frequently skip stitches. Also, if you are using the incorrect needle for the fabric & thread you are using, it will skip stitches, ie a ball point needle on woven fabric.

There are a couple things you can do that may help. 1. Float some lightweight paper under the fabric. Sew through the material and the paper. Then tear away the paper.

Secondly make sure you are using a long enough stitch.

If none of these things work.... take it in and have an example of the skipping. Have the machine's timing checked.

Pfaff 1222E machine not working right

Skipped stitches means a bent or dull needle or improper needle for the fabric being sewn. Try a new needle of the correct type for the material being sewn. If this doesnt correct it, then it will be a timing or needle to hook problem and should go to a qualifed dealer for repair.

Might be that you need to lower the tensions quite a bit, you'll have to juggle with top and bottom tensions though, and experiment for just this operation with the Sensormatic.
