Since moving the light will come on in the tumbler but the power won't turn on. Any idea what the problem is?

If you installed the power cord I am guessing this is a 240 volt electric dryer. Electric dryer terminal blocks have 3 screws in a straight line. The center is neutral with a hot line on each side. The hot lines don't matter which is on the right or left. Now if you have the big flat power cord, the 3 wires are already in line for you. the center is neutral and the 2 hot lines are on the outsides. Install all wire in a straight line. If you have a big round power cord it may have 4 wires inside that are usually color coded. White is Neutral (center screw). green is a secondary ground and can be attached to any screw going into the dryer body. That should leave 2 more wires--red and black, These are your hot lines. put one color on each side of the neutral screw. Doesn't matter if red is on right and black on left side or if you reverse those 2 colors. It should still work properly.

Replace power cord

When a plug wire is replaced say on a stereo there is no hot or neutral it makes no difference which wire goes where there are instances where hot and neutral are a concern but not with a 2 wire plug that is not separated by color if you have 2 white or 2 black then there is no order just wire and go.When color is in question the wires will be colored I hope this helps.

How to replace the power cord on my DW849 Buffer

Yes. The ground will be green or yellow-green, the neutral will be white and the hot is black. This is the standard 110-volt wiring scheme. The neutral is either the white wire or the SILVER lug, the hot is either the black wire or the GOLD lug and green is always ground. some power cords have a green and yellow striped wire instead of the solid green. Just be sure to replace each wire with the same color as the one you are removing

We were recently given a kenmore dryer, without a power cord. How do I attach the 3 wire power cord that I bought to relace it?

Attach the power cord as follows:

1. Remove the cover on the terminal block on the back of the dryer.

2. Match the corresponding wire colors as follows:

a. RED - HOT (120VAC)
b. BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
c. WHITE - Neutral (0 VAC) - should have a ground strap attached, tying it equipment ground.

3. Make sure you use the power cord strain relief clamp when installing the power cord to prevent chaffing of the insulation and wire strain which can lead to broken wires.

NOTE: If the wires are not color coded, the outer two wires (left and right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

For clarification purposes, the following link explains dryer power cord configurations/installation in detail:

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Just brougth used maytag neptune dryer.model MDE3000AYW

If you are connecting a power cord with a 3-wire configuration, you match the corresponding wire colors from the power cord to the wires on the terminal block in the back of the dryer. The correct color-code is as follows:

RED - HOT (120VAC)
BLACK - HOT (120VAC)
WHITE - NEUTRAL (0VAC)*

*There should be a ground strap or ground wire connected to neutral at the terminal block in a 3-wire configuration.

NOTE: If the wires are not color-coded, the outer two wires (Left and Right) are the HOT leads. The center conductor is Neutral.

If you have any questions, you can refer to this link for further explanation:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

This explains the difference in 4-wire and 3-wire configurations. I hope this helps you.

Positive side of Non-colord power cord

body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; } p { margin:0px; padding:0px; } .spwrap { background: transparent url(../wysiwyg_rte_2/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; } The following link explains how to correctly install power cord on your appliance:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

If the wires on the power are not color coded, the two outer wires are your hot leads. The colors are not representative of positive and negative. RED and BLACK are both HOT (120VAC) lines. Connect one to the RED wire and the other to the BLACK wire at the terminal block. The center wire on a 3-prong plug is your neutral (WHITE - non voltage carrying line) wire at the terminal block. For a three prong configuration, you should also have a grounding strap connected to the neutral which is attached to the appliance frame.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
