Air conditioner fan wont start

The condenser in the outside unit turns on however the fan does not start without a push and then it rotates at slower than normal speed. The condenser cuts off after a few minutes I assume because it heats up. The air seems to be cooling for the first few minutes before the condenser shuts off

Try sutting off the power to both units. This may reset the unit. Check out the service manual at LG website www.lgusa.com. Go to their support page and put the model number in. Remove and replace the batteries in the remote. If there is a communication error, the inside unit will display 3 flashes. If all else fails, call LG at 1-800-243-0000. Good Luck!

SOURCE: LG LWHD 1200 HR Air/Heater fan will not start.

may be a bad fan motor or loose wire, however some units have dip switch settings on the circuit board preventing the fan from coming on.

SOURCE: HEAT PUMP/AIR CONDITIONER UNIT SMELLS ONLY WHEN AIR IS ON

Not sure what the smell...smells like.  My guess is dirt or dust near the heating elements.  These will cause a burning smell.  Sometimes insects even get into the act..building webs.
You will have to clean that area out...sometimes a large blower or vac can dislodge the dust.

How does it matter which direction condensor fan turns

Yes. The fan is designed to draw air through the condensing unit to expel heat generated by compression and heat exchange in the refrigeration system. If the fan is running the wrong way, heat will not be disipated correctly and the unit will not operate efficiently. You could end up damaging the system.

Condenser fan replaced one year ago, fan not turning but can hear motor

the answer to your problem is most likely the motor start capacitor. A AC motor can run in both directions. The start capacitor is used to cause the current to lag behined the voltage which determines the direction the motor will turn. Its posible the start and run capacitors are in one can. so changing one will change the other. However look for a wiring diagram. Do not asume that both capacitors are wired in properly. They may be fighting one another causeing premature failure.

Compresor wont start and when it does it cycles on and off

Does the condenser fan come on? I am assuming the evaporator fan (inside) is blowing? The way these units are wired is that the power goes the the inside unit and the controller inside sends power to the compressor and condenser fan. But if the controller detects that the condenser fan is not turning (via no ground return) it will not send power to the compressor. This to protect the compressor. Did you notice it trip a breaker? When it is on, do you have 240 on the unit outside but not 120 to ground from each leg?

The fan is not turning on my outside air unit but it is still blowing hot air through the vents. There is also ice build up at the bottom of the unit. It is making a humming sound.

You will need to replace the outside fan,or condenser fan motor.
Shut unit down, before the compressor gets damaged.

Without the condensor fan the heat will not be blown to the outside air and the unit will not cool.

You may be low on freon too, have it checked.

Ruud achiever 10 seer air conditioner

It sounds like your condenser fan motor may be locked up or the capacitor that helps give the condenser fan motor a kick to get it started may be defective. Try turning your system on and using a long screwdriver try to push the fan blade on the condenser fan motor to see if it will run normally if you give it the starting boost it needs. If it does run at full speed and doesn't over heat or start and then slow down then you probably only need to replace a simple 10-12$ capacitor. If it barely turns, makes an odd humming sound or overheats etc. then you will have to replace the condenser fan motor. This is assuming that the outdoor condenser has the 220v supplied and the 24v supplied to the compressor relay, that the compressor relay is engaged and suppling 220v to the condenser fan motor.
