F & P Kelvinator Smart Drive 708 - Faulty power switch and cycles

Hi
I have a F&P Kelvinator Smart Drive 708 which is about 12 years old.
I am having problems just switching it on. Sometimes I have to push the power switch about 50 times! no joking and when the power finally comes on and I put in the cycle I want it seems to get stuck on the cycle and I have to manually progress the cycle. If I put it on a short wash It sometimes goes on a long wash and sometime it seems to fill and fill (I can hear the water) but when I lift the lid there is hardly any water. Is it worth me getting in a techinician or do you think I should look at buying a new machine. Thanks for your help.

I tell you what the problem is, the condensers on main board have dried out. The easiest way to fix it, is replace the main board with a second hand old machine board from a machine that has leaking seals.

Fisher and Paaykel Smart Drive 708 not working once filled with water.

You need to check your lid switch & out of balance switch for
corrosion and replace if faulty.
Your out of balance switch is under the big yellow motor controller
OOB switch Is where the grey plate is on this picture.

My Fisher & Paykel smart drive 708 will not switch on. I recently moved house and it worked before I left but I recall that it drizzled while moving so could have got wet. Nothing happens at all

these machines must be truck from the front & transported in the upright position, it may be tilted, but do not not lay flat on its back.
There is about 2 caps of water still in the bucket that the pump cannot pump up a vertical pipe.
Motor controller may have got wet & blown the 4 amp fuse in the board.
You need find a tech to have a look at your machine.

Water will not drain from machine
1. Kinked or clogged drain hose---clean hose
2. Pump does not run----readjust & tighten pump, drive mechanism
3. Suds lock---remove suds add cold water
4. Faulty transfer value---replace
5. Defective timer---replace
6. Loose belt----adjust belt

Smart drive 708 7.5kg toploader. All lights and power on but wont start when 'start/pause' hit.

HI - A 708 EH! A BIT OF AN OLDIE - ANYWAY THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE THE DOOR SWITCH NOT OPERATING.

OK - to repair - unplug the power source - remove 2 screws back top corners, lift the display unit & lay on the lid - on the right side got all the wires going down the machine - locate the first plug has 4 wires , wh - Y- Bl & Bl - BK/BL are thinner and both goes with the rest of the wires & the other 2 you will note goes under the controller - cut & strip the BK/BL so the copper is exposed - use a proper elect connector twist together these exposed wires & join inside the connector.

Assemble & enjoy.

CAUTION - this in effect will overide the lids effectiveness - whilst the machine is operational the opening of the lid will not pause/stop the machine in its tracks like how it should be. Be wary the user safety has been compromised - otherwise try to obtain a replacement if still available for these particular series...

The smart drive 708 on any wash cycles has poor water flow..ie the water seems to be filling up very slowly and the normal wash cycle takes 2hrs

Hi Challe340, Sounds like your machines Inlet solinoid valve that supplys water to your machine may have a clogged internal diaphagm, its quite normal for it to clogg up due to high sediment build up in the water mains over the years and seeing that the machine is a smart drive 708 it probly hasnt had inlet replacement in it entire life. As for the normal wash cycle taking so long could be due to restriction in water flow from the faulty inlet valve slowing down the water fill segments in its rinsing cycle stage, hope this help.

The machine stops at wash cycle every minute or so

Firstly, the model 708 is way more than 9 years old. More like 18 - 19 years old. There is 2 types of errors on a smartdrive. One is signalled by a single beep every second & the top row of lights will change. The 2nd is a rippling musical sound (like when you turn the power on at the wall) and some lights will be blinking. You need to tell us what sound it is and which lights are blinking or which of the top row lights are on (exactly, count from the right to left and which number is on & which is off) There is no such thing as a reset to do. Once I know the fault I can advise you what to do about it.
