Closed captioning code for an Armstrong Cable UEI controller

Somehow I tripped into a code to select closed captioning with the controller. Now, the closed captioning is on ALL of the time and it is in the way of viewing many things. Can you help me get out of this mess?

I cannot imagine the original person still has this issue but if you turn off the cable box, assuming it is an HD PVR, you then hit the menu key and you can go into a whole bunch of options including cc

If you have an older remote - all the instructions I found are for the newer EXP remotes that have a menu or settings button - press the Info button without having the OS Guide on and it will bring up your options. Actually, CC is the first option, so that's probably why many of us had the issue.

For over the air usually on the lower section of the remote look for CC or subt.

If on cable the Close Caption is controlled by the cable box not the TV. Usually there is a CC near the cable select button on the cable box remote. If not found then go into the cable box settings and look for

How to get rid of closed captioning

If pressing the cc button on the Sharp remote does not turn off the closed captioning then the closed captioning is most likely coming from the cable box or whatever you have connected to this television. You can go into the cable box menu by pressing the menu button on the front when it is turned off. That's right turn off the cable box and then press menu on it to access the hidden menu that includes closed captioning. Scroll down to closed captioning and scroll over to disable. A number of other Directv receivers have the CC located on a "captioning" tab on the "display" page under setup and for dish network:
Setting Closed Captioning:
  1. Press and release the MENU button and then select "Preferences."
  2. Select "Closed Caption."
  3. Select "Caption On/Off."
  4. Select "CC is On."
  5. Select "Done."

We have a Sharp 25J-M100 and we cannot turn off the Closed Caption. We hit menu on our Sharp Remote Control and go down to Closed Caption and make sure it is off. The words never go off of the screen. Our...

If the captions are turned off on your TV, they have to be coming from your cable box. The TV is just displaying what it's getting. Check your cable box menu and make sure captions are turned off there. Cable boxes, especially on digital systems, can prevent the TV's caption decoder from operating properly. So they need to be able to provide captioning, and I suspect you've turned it on somehow. Comcast should be able to tell you how to turn off captions if you can't figure out the menus.

How to turn closed caption off?

If the cc button on your Sharp remote control isn't turning them off then the captions may be coming from your cable box. The hidden menu to access closed captioning on the cable box is usually found by turning it off and then (yes I did say turn the cable box off) then press the menu button on the front of it immediately after turning it off. Then you navigate down to captions and disable them. When you turn the cable box back on the captions should no longer be there.

Assuming whatever your TV receiving from has close caption. (Not all TV channel has close caption) Solution 1) Get a new universal remote that support your model and has close caption button. Once you program in the code for your TV model and it works then all button should also programmed including th close caption button. Solution 2) Search online for the owner manual and read see how to turn it on using buttons on TV (if possible). Solution 3) Get new TV with close caption. (If you have an old old TV with bad and huge pixels then this solution is the best. Your eyes will thank you.)
