I have lost the picture on the Harmony 890 remote LCD Screen. Help please.
I removed the battery for 60 minutes and then re-inserted it while holding down the "OFF" button as was posted before - THAT made all the difference. I got the "safety message" and then updated the remote and all is well again! I didn't wait long enough with the battery removed before...
Had the same thing:
Step 1 - remove the battery for about 60 minutes. There seems to be a little energy store in the unit and just taking out the battery, counting to 10, and reinstalling it does not work.
Step 2- Do a software update upgrade from the Logitech site. The new firmware level seems to have fixed the base problem.
If you just take the battery out and put it in, it does not work.
If you take the battery out and just hook it up to do a software upgrade, it does not work becuase the remote gets power from the USB commenction so it remains "hung"
The most disturbing thing about the whole event for me was the number of people that had the problem occur about 12 months and 1 day after purchase....ie when it was out of warranty!!!
HI! Here's what to do if your Logitech Harmony remote's LCD screen has gone blank.
1. Remove the battery, press and hold the 'OFF' button, and re-insert the battery. The screen will display 'Safe Mode!', or the 'Activities' button will be lit.
2. Connect your remote to the computer.
3. Launch the Harmony Remote Software, and log in.
4. Click "Downloads" at the top and click "Firmware".
5. The remote will go through the firmware update.
6. Select "Yes", and click NEXT to update the remote.
If the screen is still blank after you complete these steps, then it is a hardware issue and you should contact Logitech's wonderful support team, given that the remote is still under warranty.
I was out of warranty when this happenned, and they gave me a significant discount off a new remote. Go Logitech!

Before I saw the "best solution" response, I did the same processes; tried updating through the computer first, and when that didn't restore the blank screen, took the back cover off, removed the lithium battery, blew on it in case there were any dust, then replaced it back. Screen came back just fine.
I HAVE HAD THE SCREEN GO BLANK TWICE. THE FIRST TIME UPDATING THROUGH THE COMPUTER BROUGHT IT BACK. SECOND TIME THIS DID NOT WORK. THIS TIME I REMOVED THE BATTERY AND REPLACED IT HOLDING DOWN THE "OFF" BUTTON. THIS BROUGHT THE SCREEN BACK IN SAFETY MODE - AN UPDATE RESTORED THE UNIT.
BY THE WAY, BOTH TIMES IT WENT DEAD I HAD DROPPED THE UNIT OIN A TILE FLOOR - MEA CULPA!
I have an 880 with blank display but the remote would still operate devices. I found there is a software and firmware update which may have been the problem.Something to do with the charging system.
I updated and presto display is back.

Call Logitech!. I had the same problem. The tech went through all of the fixes with me over the phone, but it didn't help--I still had a blank screen. They ended up sending us a refurbished remote and it only took a few days to arrive!
Screen is blank and the cradle has power. Can you please help.

i dropped it on a tile floor off the arm of the couch, screen is blank, buttons light up and it still controls everything.
Our Logitech 890 remote has a blank screen. The cradle shows that there is power (light on) but the remote has no power. It worked this morning and when we came home it did not work anymore.
I have the same problem, but now I can't connect to the remote because the mini usb plug is gone!. I did let it fall off the bed a few times, it is the fate of the remote controller, they fall of the bed!, its part of their job. Considering that, I feel that the Harmony 890 should be stronger, like my blackberry which I can't remember how many times it has bounced off the ground, and it still works fine.... The Harmony has almost no moving parts, it should be stronger at taking falls.
Add me to the list of Logitechs with blank screens. I did have this happen before but I just removed the battery and all was well when I put it back in. Now nothing. This remote is WAY to expensive to be so problematic. I have had it for only six months!!

Also have blank screen with backlight only (but remote still works). Tried updating firmware, battery removal, etc. No luck. I believe one of my kids dropped it - but for the cost, I would expect it to be more shock proof. I would be interested in some type of replacement cost opportunity from Logitech, but haven't found one yet.

We have the 890 and the remote was dropped on tile. All devices run fine and we get just the blue screen. Battery removal for 60 minutes, 10 count, and software update did not help. Best Buy would only refer us to Logitech, who don't seem to have a Repair option or authorized repair locations. That is the nice thing about Sony, at least you have that option.

Our screen lights up but is blank and if you can remember where you programmed what, you can get by but not the most ideal situation.

Harmony 890 - dropped it on the floor (on to a rug) and the LCD screen went blank. The buttons all work except the ones associated with the screen. Tried updating remote - no go. Removed battery - brushed out contacts - no go. Now what?!
I had the same problem. Remote appeared to be working but there was nothing on the Display. It would only Glow. I went through all the troubleshooting tips here. I took out the battery and put it back in an hour later. I tried the same and held the off button while doing it (safety mode) but nothing happened. I called logitech and updated all my firmware / software, Still nothing!! My remote is no longer under warranty so logitech can only give advice not supply great support or replace it. So I took the remote appart to check the connections..While it was apart I put the battery in.. and the Display Worked!!!! so I put it back together and now the remote works as per normal.
I dont suggest ppl do this if they are under warranty, only if you've tried the other options first and it all fails then check the connections on the inside of the remote
Dropped my remote onto a wood floor from about 2.5 feet....blue screen, remote still functions but no display.
This is actually my 2nd 890. First one spontaneously gave us the blue screen of death with no drop, but it wouldn't control devices. Logitech replaced it, but now this, and they won't do anything for me since the warranty on the original remote has since expired.

Never dropped it and had no problems until one day I got the blank screen of death. I tried taking the battery our for an hour - didn't work. I tried a new battery but still nothing. I tried to update the remote software but that doesn't work either because remote has no life. Best Buy only referred me to mfg since just out of warranty period. Any other ideas out there? It is surprising how many people are having the same problem, just after the warranty period. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Signed - $350 down the crapper
You need to replace the bad LCD in your remote. I bought a defective 880 off eBay that uses the same LCD part number and replaced the LCD in my 890. If you have a any bit of mechanical and or electrical ability it is very easy. Shoot me an email for instructions:

Same problem. Did firmware and software updates. No change, LCD screen lit but blank. Removed battery again and connected remote to computer via USB. The screen lit up normal complete with all my activities but a "low battery" warning! I will keep battery out for 60 min. and reinstall as per earlier post. If no fix, then get a replacement battery!
