Expensive Repairs A reputable repair facility has told us that our Odea Go needs a new water pump assembly. Is this something that goes out on a regular basis? They're quoting about 4 hours labor to replace and $90 for parts, or about $276 to repair. I don't want to do this again, anytime soon. The unit is about 2 years old. Thanks for any information.

There are multiple models that are listed as Odea Go series. Unfortunately the espresso community does not speak highly of these machines because of the low quality parts and assembly processes. The manufacturer for this unit has changed several times.

SOURCE: Saeco De Luxe Coarse Grind

You could have knocked it out of its shaft or worse, Cracked the shaft itself.

Settings could be off too, It fairly common. Recheck the chamber, and make sure the plastic casing isn't cracked and the grinder doesn't wabble at all. It should be fairly firm.

If it isn't firm, bad news, cracked shaft.

SOURCE: Saeco leaking... Please HELP!#@&(!

This may just be a cleaning issue. I have had this alot. If you open the machine and take the contraption out of the inside (the hopper thing). You should clean this of course but the problem is behind that on the back wall of the machine. There is a diagonal slot. at the bottom of the slot is a drainage port that is supposed to take the water and send it to the tray. but you will probably find that this is all clogged up with coffee. You need to clean the coffee out, I recommend pipe cleaners and Qtips and patience to get it out. You will know it is clean when you can squirt water into the bottom of the diagonal slot and it will flow out of a little port just below it (where it goes to the tray).

How to keep this from happening again. Most likely given the description of the beans (too wet), your grinder is set too fine. You can adjust the grinder when it is running and you should adust it to a higher number. Its recommended to be on 8 and you may need to go to 10 or 11, ( you have to experiment with it). I only recently realized that my own grinder was set at too low of a number and it was causing a recurrence of this leakage issue.

SOURCE: water leaks from the bottom of the odea go when

Hi,
If it's from the left side of the machine, probably the tap valve seals are leaking. If alot of water leak out without any coffee from the spout, then the hoses rupture or boiler leakage inside the machine.

My vacumn starts then cuts out two seconds later. It smells. I've been told the motor gone and it's not worth mending. Is this true ??

Hello, Janet -

If you took your vacuum cleaner to a reputable vacuum cleaner repair shop and a repair person there told you that it wasn't worth repairing the machine, you can always take it to another vacuum cleaner repair shop for another evaluation. If the person evaluating the machine tells you it is not worth repairing, then you have two corroborating opinions.

Some expensive, high quality vacuum cleaners are worth repairing. Many inexpensive machines are not worth the cost, especially if they need new motors. It depends upon the make and model of the machine and how much a new version of the vacuum cleaner would cost.

I still have and use an expensive Electrolux model my mother purchased in the 1980s. The only repairs it has needed are belt replacements, cord replacement, and a cleaning and "tune up."

If you take your vacuum cleaner to a second repair shop for evaluation, and if the repair technician tells you the motor needs to be replaced and the machine is not worth the cost of a motor replacement, ask that person what he / she recommends as a high-quality long lasting vacuum cleaner for a replacement. The repair shop may have refurbished vacuum cleaners you can choose from for a replacement at lower costs than new machines. Note: The man at the repair shop where we have taken our vacuum cleaner loves to talk about vacuum cleaners and discuss the pros and cons of certain makes. He recommended a refurbished model to purchase for our son.

84 porsche 944, how to improve a used waterpump before engine installation.

while parts may be available the total cost is generally more than a new unit
If the water pump body is cast steel and there is a pump repair kit available , it will take an accredited shop with the correct tools to effect the kit fittment
if the pump body is aluminium then go for the new pump as repairs will be too expensive.

Transmission stopped

The splines in the pump to converter are most likely stripped. Since hard parts will be way too expensive, the best idea would be an overhauled unit from a reputable repair facility.

2001 VW Golf TDI ,overheats, spent over $2000 instaled new radiator, water pump, timing belt kit after VW dealer at Ontario,CA diagnosed problem.Car still overheats, but I used other repair shop to replace...

Fact is, for a 2001 car, taking it to a dealer is just asking for trouble-they saw you coming, and too advantage of it. You might consult with an attorney, but the fact of the matter is you decided to allow them to 'diagnose' it and then took it to another facility for repair. That it took them 4 hours to incorrectly diagnose says it all-unless a car is under warranty, taking a vehicle to a dealer is a huge waste of money.

Get a compression test done-it might reveal a blown head gasket or worse, damage to the mating surfaces of the engine and head(s)-I think the repair facility who actually did the repairs bought into the bad diagnosis, so appeal to their professionalism-have them do the compression test and a pressure test to the cooling system to determine the extent of the damage. Finally, your car is 10 years old-the dealer should have done right by you, but more often than not, the abuse people who drive older cars because of the years of attachment and the possibility of a huge bill.

I have a 2002 Kia Spectra with 130000 miles. I am replacing the timing belt, and the mechanic wants a lot more money to replace the water pump. Is it worth replacing the water pump? Is it easy to...

My dad always told me "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...however, this doesn't rule out preventative maintenance, which is your primary concern. I'm somewhat suspicious of your mechanic's motives, after all, he's there to make money, not save you money. My advice is this: if you have yet to have the car repaired by this particular shop, then get a second opinion from a reputable one. If they have already started the work...get a few quotes for the repairs from other shops for comparison, as well as getting a written warranty on any parts and labor, should you choose to let them replace it. Good luck and I hope this has helped you! :)

We have three zones and one pump is not warm. It feels like the others that it is running, but the water in the loop affected is not heating. It may not be calling for heat but it is on the same thermostat...

These pumps work by timer and by thermostat.
I prefer timer-operated over thermostat because I use hot water at predictable times, thus cutting operation cost to a fraction.

When my first re-circulation system stopped working, I took it off and cleaned it out, but it never started working again.
I also tried to take it apart to see if motor was repairable.
My electric motor guy told me that when motors slow down or stop rotating that they overheat and burn out.
I asked him about rewinding the motor, and he said in the old days, every motor was repaired and put back in service, but today they throw motors away. All that copper goes into the landfill for tomorrow's prospector. And he said what I noticed, that the pump assembly doesn't come apart for repairs.

You can remove the pump and try same things I did, but my guess is you need replacement.
I bought new pump from Lowes.
Local plumbing shops carry re-circulation pumps, and plumbers and handymen install them.
Installation is simple enough if you're handy and peripherally experienced with plumbing.

The Speed Queen Top Loading Washing machine used by my condo doesn't drain completely after the wash cycle. It normally leaves half of the wash water in the tub then fills the rinse water on top of it. ...

You are absolutely right, whoever told you otherwise is full of ____!! The wash water has to completely drain out and if it isn't there may be an obstruction of some kind in the pump if this is happening all the time. It could be a child's sock, or a bra wire, something like that. Have someone reputable check it out for you.

Transaxle reset modem in 2002 Dodge Intrepid

I'd take it to the dealer or reputable transmission shop if you have one in your area & have scan tool put on it, and find out exactly what is causing it. May be as simple as a corroded connection, if you want to disconnect your battery first then pull connectors on transmission & spray clean them with contact, or electrical cleaner just to try it yourself, otherwise let the pro's work on it, as transmissions are way too expensive to repair or replace just because you thought the guy knew what he was talking about, and the longer you let it go, the bigger chance of expensive damage can occur. Sorry, but usually pays off in the long run. You can always get a second opinion if you don't like the price of an estimate of repairs.
