Everything on the tv works except there is no picture. The set worked earlier today, but we also had a thunderstorm move through earlier. Is there any type of reset or is the tv done for???
You can do quite a bit to narrow things down....
First thing, unplug the set and wait 10 minutes. Then plug it in and watch the green power LED. If it does nothing push the power button and watch the power LED. If the set doesn't respond hold down the MENU and INPUT buttons on the front of the set until the LED starts blinking. If it blinks at this time count the blinks and then repost.
Well, you may think that the response you just gave would mean very little. But actually it tells me volumes. It has been my experience with that model that the only thing that can allow the set to come on with audio but no pix is a failure of the vertical sweep circuit. It's a little compicated but if the vertical circuit stops the microprocessor blanks video to protect the picture tubes but leaves the audio alone. You either have solder problems in the vertical circuit or it will need a new vertical output IC. Either way this is a job for a reputable tv shop. The average repair cost would run around $200 to $300. And BTW that is a good set worth that repair.
Sorry, no emails, however the first place to go is the solder connections on the deflection yokes. But you have to understand that no matter how 'handy' you are if you don't understand the nomenclature of a technical nature as respect to the workings of a television this is gonna get a little rough. From the front of the set remove the speaker grill and then the front access panel beneath the screen. On each picture tube neck is a deflection yoke with a plug in connector on the right side. This connector plugs into a small circuit board and on the back side of the where the pins are solder you may see 'ring cracks' on the top two pins. Those are for vertical. If bad they are causing the no picture. You will have to use a small mirror to even see them. And they a almost impossible without rotating the yoke. Once you do that repositioning the yoke is real tricky and if done incorrectly you will get colored ghosts of the color of the particular yoke you moved. If you mess with all of that a professional tech will have to charge more to correct for problems you have induced. Sorry, but I don't really believe this is a repair for the handiest of all but professionals.

hatman1,
Thank you for responding.....After unplugging the set and waiting 10 mins, there were no lights from the LED when plugged back in. I pushed the power button and the set came on, LED stayed a solid green. Tried the Menu and Input buttons and the LED never started blinking....just stayed solid with the set on or off (held for 30-45 seconds both ways). Still have audio but no video. Other suggestions???
Thank you again for the info! I will definitly check in to finding a repair shop around here and see about getting it fixed. I can repair about any printer, monitor, computer, laptop, fax or copier out there, but haven't messed much with tv's at all. I truely appreciate your help! If the part is somewhat easily accessible, could you email me with general location. I can usually fix about anything as long as I have a general idea what is wrong and where the parts are located on the units. My email is [email protected]. Thank you again so much for the help!
You are probably right. I have worked on several computer monitors, but they have pretty well become disposables any more, so it has been a while. I do have a good idea what you are talking about tho, and I do appreciate the help! They are pretty touchy. I will post and let you know when I get someone to come out and fix it. You've been a tremendous help!!!
