SOURCE: rheem tankless water heater wont lite

the system was not sized properly, you need to have a 3/4 gas line to the unit for the volume of gas it needs, the tankless water heaters need to have every bit of gas that is says, it sounds like who ever installed di not make sure you had enough gas comming in the house, you might have to either have a new meter installed or run the gas lind directly from the meter to the water heater and cap off the gas line thats there

SOURCE: Paloma PTG 74PV N1 Tankless Water Heater - stops heating

Most likely problem is the remote control not the main board. A safe temporary fix is to unplug the heater from the 110 volt outlet, remove the two low voltage wires from the remote control and use a small wire nut to connect the two conductors together. Plug the heater back into the 110 outlet and the heater should work just fine. The default water temperature is about 118 degrees at the heater. Replace the remote control ASAP.

SOURCE: Paloma tankless, gas, water heater, error code C7 76

If you look on the left hand side of the burner control module you'll see 4 capacitors - the capacitors have most likely failed...pretty sure anything code 76 is P/S failure. It may also be covered for manufactures defects. If the cap is blown..the top will be slightly raised as apposed to flat like the other nearby caps - they are called top blow capacitors...the damage should be evident.

Bought a rheem rete 13 off ebay

Question posted under Rheem tankless water heater:

Call Rheem at 800 432 8373
They will need serial number located on label on side of unit.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

Usually I recommend that people tear out their tankless water heater and sell it on ebay, and then install tank-type heater from different manufacturer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html

I would be very reluctant to connect used gas appliance without a product manual, and service manual.

No hot water

Before calling service technician, open following link for Bosch troubleshooting resources including Bosch contact number and possible manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html

Tankless water heaters require yearly maintenance to check gas pressure, inspect and clean burner and combustion parts, inspect vent and vent drain, clean air filter, check water flow, de-lime the heat exchanger etc.
This maintenance can stop ordinary problems from occurring, and can be done by the homeowner by reading Bosch service manuals for specific model number.
The continual maintenance, and cost of repairs and parts, and cost of professional service are more expensive than expected $1-8 monthly energy savings from owning tankless.

Fix most tankless problems yourself, same day, for about $350.

Where do I find model number or serial number?I turned off main water valve to replace a leaking pipe and now I can't turn on the water heater. How do I do it?

1) You posted under Bosch tankless water heater.
There should be a nameplate on front of unit or located where you can see it.
http://www.boschhotwater.com/HelpfulResources/TechnicalSupport/BoschAquaStarModels/2400ESTechSupport/Troubleshooting/tabid/1295/Default.aspx

Bosch problems at Fixya:

Bosch has online tech support form:
http://forms.boschhotwater.com/Home/BoschTechSupportForm/tabid/614/Default.aspx

2) Replacing water valve probably loosened build-up inside pipe that lodged in water heater or inside elbow just beneath tankless unit.
If water flow is stopped or slowed, tankless will not operate.

3) Remove pipes and see if clog can be flushed.

4) Also U-tupe search "delime tankless water heater" and technique used for deliming will be good way to clear out tankless clog and sediment.
Your tankless should be delimed each year anyway.

5) Read your manual cover to cover, and see words 'troubleshoot' and 'maintenance' are used throughout manual. Get acquainted with your water heater and manual, because tankless are maintenance heavy, especially if conditions are not optimal and as unit ages.

6) All costs are energy. Install tank type water heater for ez do-it-yourself repairs and maintenance.
Tank type work under all types of adverse conditions and water pressures and water conditions, and even withstand sediment build-up for several years. Of course tank-type pipes can clog too.

Can't get any hot water, tried the breaker, tried unplugging and plugging it back in. Out of options other than calling a plumber in to take a look.

If this is 240V electric tankless, make sure unit is getting 240V.
Circuit can test for electricity if just one leg of 240V circuit is on, but the other leg is not.
http://waterheatertimer.org/240-v-water-heater-circuit.html#120-240

All costs are energy.
Find a plumber trained in that specific brand of tankless.
Read manual completely several times, and make sure maintenance is done on yearly basis.
Read troubleshoot section completely.
Manual should have phone number of manufacturer.
Call manufacturer for name of trained service technician in your area.

Before installing tankless, make sure trained person is available in area.
This will give insurance that tankless can be successfully maintained, and it will help economy since tankless problems can go on, especially as unit ages.

Tankless should be de-limed each year.
Tankless cannot be exposed to more than 11 grains hardness in the water.
Water pressure, water flow, water quality, air quality, air supply, gas supply, venting, internal parts such as filters, washers, circuit board, dripping condensation are all causes of tankless failure and problems can be combination of several factors.
Problems can be simple or complicated.

Install tank type heater as back up for those days when tankless is not working.
