No reverse My Jet Vac was not backing out of corners. My pool cleaning man put a new set of gears into the pool sweep and it still does not reverse as it should. It will simply stop after about two minutes and not reverse at all for two cycles. On the third (short cycle) it will reverse, but only for about a foot and go right back into the same corner. My question is: IS THERE A SPECIFIC ORDER OR PATTERN FOR INSTALLING THE GEARS SO THE CLEANER STAYS ON THE PROPER CYCLE? Apparently he simply removed the old gears and dropped in the new ones without thinking of alignment. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have same problem....It gets stuck in corner and will not come out! I took it apart and examined the gears and impeller, no signs of wear on the teeth or the center hole (no play). It seems that it doesnt matter about the allignment because all the water valve openings are only from the bottom gear. It allows water to pass from one opening to another. Could it be that I have too much or not enough pressure going into the vac? The output of water seems as normal as ever....hmmmm HELP!

The gear placement is irrelevant. Is the propeller binding up? Also check for debris in the reverse jets. The beauty of the Jet Vac is it's simplicity,

Jet vac will not move around the pool

Does pump work?
if not, then it's a pump problem.
If yes, then possibly plugged with debris either in the booster pump impeller or at the finger screen?
It's located at the wall adaptor.
Or... The internal gear assembly is the problem?
Sometimes the get stuck, broken tooth on an individual gear, or foreign debris clogging it.

How many jets does the 380 have that may need to be cleaned, I see 3

It sounds like you have a clogged drive turban jet or an internal hose has popped loose. I normally tell people to double check the backup valve to verify that it has been installed the right way (widest part toward the wall,)
There is a total of 6 jets, three vacuum jets blow debris into bag, one thrust jet bows water out of the nozzle on back of unit, one drive jet that operates the drive gears and one operates the sweep tail.
It is best to disassemble down to the "water management system" listed above and rinse well, shaking it in all directions. Any small debris can clog the jets, including ants!

Pool cleaner will vaccuum but no movement in pool. plenty of water pressure going thru back hose

Before doing anything, take the Jet Vac out of the pool and set it on the deck. Stand clear and turn it on. It should have enough water going through the blue jet to spray several feet and propel the jet vac on dry land.

What propels the Jet Vac is not the water going through the hose, but the water going through the little blue Jet under the Hose. You can unscrew this from the bottom of the shell and clean out any obstructions. Also, check the screen at the connection where the hose meets the wall. It is located in the white valve with the red button on it right at the pool wall. It will unscrew from the wall of the pool with the system off. Also make sure the booster pump is coming on.

Also, it may be stuck in reverse or neutral. If this is the case there will be jets of water shooting forward of the jet vac when it is on dry land.

My Polaris 380 just stop moving the pump was run and had good pressure turn one wheel they all turn freely also tail dose not move

Check several things if these pool cleaners stop moving. Check the filter screen in the in-line filter and clean, if necessary. Clean the skimmer basket, pump basket, and pool filter. Check all of the hoses,
connections, and swivels for leaks that could cause loss of water pressure. Make sure that your wheel RPM is between 28 and 32. Adjust your thrust if necessary to get RPM to that level.

JANDY RAY VAC won't back up

If you have a back up valve it will be about 18" from wall a small football looking thing this should cycle through about every munite or two and shoot a jet of water out the side of it for about 5-10 seconds if it dosen't do this pull it out of line and get a new gut for it. If this seems to be working ok you should be sure it has enough hose to reach the whole pool but be sure it just reaches the furthest point in the pool so it can strech the hose and remove any curls each time it does.

Ray Vac moving slow, circles deep end, sticks on side of pool

I have the same problem and the best solution is to repair/replace the hydro timer kit. It has inner gears that are plastic and wear down and doesn't rotate through the cycle of water flo that changes it's direction. I'm in the process of exhaustive repair and I'm going to replace the hydro timer - (inside part only) and then see what happens. Moving the gears did change it's moving patterns tho.
