This is a very common problem with the neptune washers.
use a javex and hot water solution and scrub the rubber boot.
you should also do an acid wash. (hot wash with bleach, and no clothes) if there is mold on the boot it is inside the washer as well.

There is a way to prevent this. when the washer is not in use, hang a small towl on the washer door, and do not close the door.
this will allow for air movement in the washer

Mold on rubber seal on Maytag front load washer

this was and is still a common problem with maytag and for the most part all front load washers... make sure if your rubber seal has a hole in the ceter for the drain it is clear and not clooged partially... the only solution really is clean it with a cleaning solution to kill mold and then after each cycle try to leave door cracked so that air gets to boot/seal so that it stays dry....
hope this helps.... maytag actually had a lawsuit over the neptunes and now are owned by whirlpool coorporation due to that law suit and a dishwasher they had that would catch fore... servicer for 18 years now good luck to you

Neptune washer front door seal has black build up

Try pouring a cup full of distilled white vinegar into the soap dispenser drawer while it is filling up on a hot wash. Don't put any washing in, just let the machine go through the full cycle. Repeat if necessary.

You may be able to scrub lightly affected areas of the door seal with a scourer or old toothbrush etc. and something like Jiff. To be on the safe side you should wear goggles and a mask when dealing with black mold.

It may be worth trying a black mold remover available from supermarkets but read the instructions to make sure it is safe to use on rubber if intending to use it on the door seal. If badly affected - the only way to get rid of it - is to replace the door seal.

I get lots of mould on the door seal - why? The machine also leaks when its empty or only half full

You won't notice the mold on other machines with black door seals because of the color. If your seal is gray, it is a normal thing. Chances are it really isn't mold, but a build up of crud. However in the off chance it is mold, spray the seal liberally with mildew remover, let sit and repeat until the mold is gone. . As for the leaking (assuming the leak is happening at the door), if it is a drip or two during the cycle, although it is not "normal" for this to happen, front loaders do often drip here and there. If you have more problems than a couple of drips, replace the seal. . Other leaks not at the door should be looked at. There aren't too many places it can really leak. It should be easy to find.

Hi, Some of the best information that I have found has been on YouTube. Go there, and type in "smelly washer" or "moldy washer". There are a number of good tutorials there.

Maytag front loader washing machine. Mould

How old is the washer? Did you try straight bleach on a towel and placed over the "mold" spot for about 5 minutes, be sure to wear gloves. Then scrub with a small brush being careful not to splatter bleach on yourself and rinse well. May need to replace the seal. I always leave the door cracked open after every use to "dry" out the inside and the boot. I also leave the drawer pulled out when not in use for that area to dry out as well. I have never had mold on the door seal of my Neptune washers, only the water holes above the dispenser drawer.

Build up of black "gook"

I also have had issues with a bad smelling LG Tromm 2277 washer when we leave the door closed after using it. One note on the LG site mentions that soap/scum buildup on the washer drum can encourage mold growth. They suggested running an empty wash load and then pause it after the water fills and add a hot tub cleaning product (Whirl Out - I got it at Lowe's) and restart the load. This stuff should help remove the soap scum and limit the smelly mold growth. My washer does not smell as bad after using it. I also have run an empty cycle with only bleach using the very hot sanitary load setting.
