Tv repair tv picture gets smaller & smaller,i have to hit it on top for screen to open up

hit your TV on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board ( also on CRT circuit board ) at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or abnormal width, or rolls etc ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears normally for some time............so solution is .....TV main board & CRT circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting TV lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again ................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer .............iam from bangalore -( computers, laptop, printers, etc )

What type of tv and model etc.

One thing you should be aware of.
If you do not have HD tv...say direct tv
then you maybe stuck with a smaller picture.

Example:
If I run my direct tv HD I get a full picture but, if
I am running it in a non HD channel...the picture
is alot smaller with the black sides and top.

The other option is on your remote you should
have buttons to control stretch etc.

Use those and see if they help.

As far as dvd"s go...make sure your not using
the letterbox versions...full screen versions should
give you ...well...Full Screen.

You need to replace the TV screen. It could not be repaired. Just get it replaced at dealer.

This problems is not causes by a person or some objects by hitting ur LCD tv picture screen panel?If,yes,by a person or an objects by hitting the picture screen panel.This tv is not repairable only can be by replaced the whole entire LCD picture screen panel only,sorry than this tv is not worth repairing.Because by replacing the tv LCD picture screen panel itself,will cost the same as a new tv.If these colors strips show up by itself,yes,tv it is repairable.The board call the T-Con decoders board is dead.This board sit right at the bottom right in the middle of the LCD picture screen panel.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-Con decoders board for the replacement.

Check for dry electrolitic capacitors near the vertical IC

hit your aspect button or fomat button on your remote it will adjust size of picture also verify cable box aspect ratio

try the format button on the remote to see if it changes the picture size.
