When I use AA batteries, it works fine. However, as soon as I plug in my Radio Shack AC Adaptor it shuts down. I bought another adaptor, no help. I have made sure that the input voltage polarity is correct. So I'm back to using batteries....works great with batteries. I checked across the power input of the radio with a high impedance ohmmeter....no short evident. I guess the only solution I can suggest is to get an "official" Sony AC adaptor instead of the Radio Shack version.

If the radio does not work with headphone then the external jack for audio may have broken loose from it's soldered points. Simple re solder may make the repair. Beyond that it would have to be diagnosed by a technician.

I have a Sony icf 2010. No sound, but white noise.

AA batteries need replacing or the contacts are corroded and one more, the PC board is connected to the AA negative post by a wire that touches the pad on the PC board. Sometimes it will lose contact because of oxidation or corrosion, to fix this a wire soldered is best but just repositioning the wire will make the cure. Requires removal of the circuit boards.

Replaced batteries, checked good proper polarity. Everything but clock is dead and error 3 message but no AC adapter is present.

A tad late on this ..... the power jack may have developed a break from the power board under stress. Resoldering might be the solution. Second may be the contacts are not making contact or corroded.

I have a Sony ICF 2010 (for over 20 years) and when I turn it on, the only reception I get is on the FM frequencies (+ aircraft freqs). Thank you. Alex

Late answer on this.... There is a FET problem with older radios and this could be the problem. Static can "zap" the transistor making the radio deaf on receive in the AM modes.

Use Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 in Europe

A transformer type (Linear Mode Power Supply) AC to DC power adapter with a 9.V nominal output, measures about 12.V without load when tested with a multimeter. A power adapter with a nominal output of 7.5 V, measures a little over 9.V. Considering a number of people across different forums reported the adapter's measured power output as 12.V, I think the nominal rating of the AC to DC adapter should be 9.V. However, keep away from Switch Mode Power Supplies.
