My HP 3330 mfp laser printer is printing two smudge marks on my documents. How do I solve this?
Two parts of the printer can affect this.
1) the toner cartridge
2) the fuser
Testing can be done to determine the problematic part.
Do a print using manual feed. Once the last bit of paper goes into the machine, open the printer door.
Remove the toner to check if smudge is there.
Replace toner cartridge if there is smudge, replace fuser it not.
You can check out what is a fuser from below link
http://www.answers.com/topic/laser-print...
"The paper passes through rollers in the fuser assembly where heat and
pressure (up to 200 Celsius) bond the plastic powder to the paper.
One roller is usually a hollow tube (heat roller) and the other is a
rubber backing roller (pressure roller). A radiant heat lamp is
suspended in the center of the hollow tube, and its infrared energy
uniformly heats the roller from the inside. For proper bonding of the
toner, the fuser roller must be uniformly hot.
The fuser accounts for up to 90% of a printer's power usage. The
heat from the fuser assembly can damage other parts of the printer, so
it is often ventilated by fans to move the heat away from the interior.
The primary power saving feature of most copiers and laser printers is
to turn off the fuser and let it cool. Resuming normal operation
requires waiting for the fuser to return to operating temperature
before printing can begin."
Unless you are an authorized service provider you
will not be able to get the fuser yourself as it is not a customer
replaceable part.
Give the troubleshoot steps a try, 9 out of 10 the issue is with the toner cartridge.
Please give me a rating if it works for you. Thanks
sorry I am not familiar with each brand of printer. So I could not really give you any good recommendations. I just fix MFP at my work place.

Thanks so much. I am not sure what a fuser is though.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I am most appreciative for your advice and support. You get a 10 in my book.
Since you are such a guru, do you give advice about printer purchases? I am a mobile notary and ideally, would like a printer with 2 inputs for regular and legal size paper. I don't want to break the bank and I was thinking about another multipurpose printer such as an HP 2727mfp. Do you have any other ideas?
