Dyson DC04 not working

If the hoover switches on then you may have a blockage in the cleaning head or pipe. If it does not switch on the you may have a break in the cable where it enters the machine. It is quite common for the cable to break there.

There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Amazon, for instance, has a Dyson Switch for models including the DC05 and six other models (see here

This video (ostensibly for a DC08, but the procedure should be pretty much identical) shows how to take the unit apart, get at and test the on/off switch, and replace it if need-be.

Follow the power from the plug to the switch through the vacuum until you reach the motor. Somewhere along the path you will likely find the problem. The most common problem is the cord or switch.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC04. If the machine shut itself off during use, it sounds as if it may have overheated due to a blockage - the filter may also need a wash.

To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

In normal use, the filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

its most likely not the switch, check the power cord.. check where the cord meets to the vacuum. the cord could be going bad and most likely not a loose wire.

Hi.

Check mains lead where it enters machine very common for internal fracture.

To prove this try waggling lead with machine switched on if it starts & stops this is the fault.
