When I turn the machine on with the espresso all ready to go, the water just stays in the machine. Nothing comes out and when I take off the thing with the espresso in it all the water that was supposed to come out just stayed in there and spills everywhere pretty much.
Also, the outlets on the bottom of the portafilter may be plugged. Flip the portafilter over and look into the outlets. With the inner filter removed, you should be able to see light through the outlets. If not, these may be plugged from improper cleaning. Set the head of the portafilter in hot water for a few minutes to soften the plug, then using a soft wooden toothpick, clean out the jam. Once you get water flowing through, run a few empty shots to finish the cleaning and inspect.
Try this remove the portafilter and press the brew button, if water comes out of head, machine is fine but the grind or the tamping(packing pressue) used on the coffee is not right. If you are grinding the coffee just before using it, try a coarser setting. If you pre grind at the store then try tamping the coffee lighter.
