Hi there, I have just purchased an asus eee pc 4g for my daughter for christmas, and I am having big problems connecting the the internet. I am not computer minded at all and have tried several things with no luck! I cannot even get a connection using the ethernet cable. First of all it would find the connection but kept saying "pending". I then put a static IP address in that somebody on here was advised to do and it now says "enabled" for a few seconds and then changes to "link is down". The wireless is definately on and I have reset the router and rebooted the laptop. I have no idea about WEP/WPA, DNS etc etc and different codes! Please can you help, regards Lisa we have EXACTLY the same problem as the first one you wrote, about not connecting to internet. i can''t see any solutions... are there any?

OK hold on because this is long and sounds more complicated than it will actually be. We are going to delete a line of code so that your operating system isn't requiring a password anymore...
Turn on your Eee PC; as soon as the first screen appears (the one with the “Press F2 to run setup” request) press and hold the F9 key, the Grub main screen will appear. Now, you have 3 options:
arrow down to option 2 but don't select it, instead press "E". This should bring up a new screen, the 2nd line on that screen should begin with "kernel..." arrow to that line and again press "E".
You will now be editing the string and you need to replace the portion that says " XANDROSSCAN=y" and instead put "XANDROSBOOTDEBUG=y" press enter and the press "B" to boot single user mode.
You should now be in a command line screen. Type everything you see between the quotes exactly as I put it
"mount /dev/sda2 /mnt-user/" PRESS ENTER
"cd /mnt-user/home/user/" PRESS ENTER
"rm .AsusLauncher/requireLogin" PRESS ENTER
"exit" PRESS ENTER
This should remove the line of code that prompts a log in.

Go into the BIOS Setup (press F2 when the screen lites up).
Right arrow key to Advanced
Down Arrow key to Onboard Devices Configuration
Enter
Arrow key down to Onboard Camera
Enter
Arrow key to Enable
Enter key
F10
Enter
Hopefully that takes care of it. :)

its all technician consultation and for me remove the CR2032 battery inside the laptop to reset the biois inside... or press F8 to go safe mode and remove the previous password to enter at administrator...
