There are 2 possibilities: either you have a stuck front panel button, or the remote sensor is bad.

You can eliminate the button issue by removing the front speaker grill and access panel and disconnecting the button assy wiring harness.

There is a plug/socket connection there that you can easily disconnect. If after disconnecting the control panel, you still have no remote, its the sensor. Its located behind the screen assy mounted behind the CRTs. You will have to remove the screen assy to get to this.

If you're not up for this, a service company will charge you $300 or so to replace the sensor for you.

SOURCE: Remote Control doesn't work

It may be the sensor in remote or tv. The only way to tell is to get an orgional replacement from manuafacture, or get a universal. Much cheaper and easier than testing or replacing sensor.

SOURCE: My Mitsubishi WS-5511 TV will not receive commands

Are the front panel controls on the tv working? If yes then either the tv's remote sensor has failed or the remote itself has. Does the remote have the functionality to control any other device, like a DVD player? If yes then is it working fine? Please answer these questions so that I can help you deal with this problem.

FAILURE OF REMOTE FUNCTION

The Sony remote may be working fine. You may have to test it on another Sony TV such as at Best Buy or at a friend's place. Some of the Sony TV's had a bad or defective infrared(IR) board. If the IR board fails, then the TV will not respond to the remote. The TV will work fine with the manual controls, but will not respond to the remote. If you are handy with taking apart computers, then taking out the IR board is not that hard. It looks like a computer memory or RAM board. One can buy a replacement board on the internet or send your bad IR board in for repair. I did just that last week by sending it to a repair service. I got the board back in less than a week and installed it. The Sony TV works fine with the remote now. I found the repair service on E-Bay. There was one in Indiana and one in California. I used the one in California. It all depends on the Sony model, but there appears to be a bunch of models with a defective IR board. Yes, it was really frustrating.

Vizio vl370m remote control

If remotes have been ruled out the only way to test the remote infrared receiver is with the set apart/ and a schematic measure voltage at the receiver when the remote is used---most of the time since the part is rather small this is just replaced to see if it is or is not the problem; some receivers will fail where if the remote is held very close they work--always the receiver in that case.

Polaroid FLM-373B not responding to any ir remote controls. Neither the OEM one or a Direct TV universal remote that has supposedly been 'programmed' for the TV.

Hi there
My first reaction is to disconnect the power supply for 5 minutes (often works wonders) With the power on again look for the function knobs on the TV itself. They are usually down in the right hand corner on the front. They have the same function as the knobs on the remote.
Give it a try.
Good luck

I have a Dish IR. Not sure of the model number. Uses 4 AAA batts. The problem I have is the every function seems to work fine except for the volume control. In order to change volume I have to use the TV...

It is possible that those buttons have failed, but a bit more likely the remote lost the codes for the TV itself... since almost everything the remote controls... is on the DVR. I apologize if I am guessing wrong in assuming other "TV" buttons (like INPUT) don't function either.

To re-program your remote to recognize your TV (like when the tech first set up the system) choose from the following receiver types to find the correct remote control TV codes for your Zenith.

Remote TV Codes for 722/622/612/411/222/211 Receivers
Remote TV Codes for 625/522/512/510/508/501 Receivers
Remote TV Codes for 811/381/322/311/301 Receivers

There is a quick test you can do to figure out if the IR transmitter on the remote is broken or if the TV's IR sensor is at fault. Using a digital camera (cell phone works too) set up a picture of your remote's IR transmitter. DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE. Simply look at the sensor through the camera's screen. Now while looking at the screen press a few buttons on the remote. If you (through the camera's screen) see a red light coming from the remote, then the remote is fine. As far as getting it repaired, you can look for a TV repair shop in your local yellow pages. Call a few and ask for a quote.

MY REMOTE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK AFTER DARK

bdale

You may have IR interference at night because of other items you turn on at night. Try leaving everything off except your TV and receive, try your remote to make sure it functions. Then turn 1 item on at a time, try the remote to see if it works or stops working. Once it stops working, the last item you turned on is causing the interference. It is then a matter of relocating that item so it won't continue to interfere with the remote functions. I hope this helps.

Have you replaced the batteries in the remote that is not working. If batteries are low, the lights will still light up but will not operate the functions for the remote. When you press and release the SAT button, what happens? If you try to press the SELECT button, does the TV button light or the SAT button? If you have already tried these steps, you may need to readdress the remote to the receiver. I have provided a link with the instructions on readdressing the remote. I hope this helps.

Remote control won't work anymore. It would work off and on now it wont work at all. Is there anything I can do?

Let's verify if it is the remote problem or the IR receiver in the TV.
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera’s Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera’s screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.
