SOURCE: Orange light blinking

Hey guys, I finally brought my ip4500, not ip4300 1month ago, and am having the same problem. I experimented with the printer inks. And finally i have fixed this problem. I suspect it may work for ip4300, or other similar pixmas as well. Please follow at your own risk.

Scenario:
The printer error led flashes 15 times. And, The ink tank lights are flashing endlessly, or does not light up at all. If the ink light is off, it does not mean that the chip is corrupt.... Do not replace it, like i have. lol.

Problem: one or more of the inktank chips are corrupt. If at least one cartridge is corrupt, the printer will not work. Must purchase corrupted ink cartridge, or call canon for replacement.

Solution: Instead of buying a complete set of ink, find out which ink cartridge is corrupt, and needs replacing:

1.put all ink tank into the printer without the chip. close printer cover. computer should alert that "the following ink tank cannot be recognised. Printing cannot be executed because the ink tank...." You should see a picture of the ink in the alert box.
The picture in the warning box shows that the black, black. yellow, magenta, cyan are not inserted.

2.Starting with the blue ink, remove blue ink from the printer, reinsert chip into ink tank, then put the ink tank back into the printer. Close Printer cover. Notice that this time, if the ink chip isn't faulty, computer alerts that only black, black, yellow, magenta are not inserted into your printer.
If it is faulty, then you see another alert box, about unrecognized ink - if so go to step 4.

To test if the chips on the other ink cartridges(tanks) are faulty:

3. Repeat step 2, with the rest of the ink tanks. from right to left(blue, magenta, yellow, pgiblack, black)
4. Purchase corrupt ink tank. or call Canon for a replacement.

lemme know if this helps you.

I am having a problem printing with my HP printer

you wasted your time using cleaning program and heaps of ink...

follow this procedure:

1. remove all ink cartridges from the printer
2. check if ink is soluble in water, isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit (this which do not create lumps or precipitations is correct solvent)
3. put one drop of solvent in th centre of aspiration hole on receptable
4. if solvent is absorbed through input, that meant problem is not with printer but with cartridges.
5. check printer cartridge by stamping them with tissue if they "produce" any ink on the outlet,
6. put one drop of solvent on cartridge outlet and insert them in correct bases
7. print test page, print should be rather weak as solvent will go through the nozzles
8. print test page from computer
9.create "strip page" of each colour used, separate by no colour (white) start with yellow strip, then white, light cyan, white, cyan, white, light magenta, white, magenta, white, black - this strip pattern will force all cartridge to operate on they max delivery.

if there is no result, service by technician will be in place...

all ink based printers need to print at least one page per week... ink will dry pretty fast, especially in dry or hot condition.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

the moving ink frame is probably pointing to a symbol such as replace color ink( three dots on ink cartridge picture). Replace color ink. You are probably printing your black and white documents with colored ink--always select black or greyscale.

Very Faint Printouts

I find the best way to clean the heads is buy some cleaning cartridges as they have cleaning fluid in them and use them to clean it will take about 10 or more times to clean the heads then put the color ones back in and try again.
Just keep putting it on clean the head don't do a print out till at lest you have cleaned 10 or more times.

Printing in black & white when color cartridge ran out

One of the possible reason why you can't print black in white because Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. More than that Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head.

Orange light blinking

Solution: Confirm the ink tank(s) are properly installed iP4300

Ensure that the ink tank is installed properly. Open the Top Cover, Paper Output Tray and Inner Cover, and then press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank whose lamp is off until the ink tank clicks into place. Once the ink tank is installed properly its lamp will light red.
Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off as shown in (1). If a part of the orange tape remains as shown in (2), remove it completely.

(1) Correct (An L-shaped notch* appears on the ink tank.)

(2) Incorrect (Orange tape remains. Peel off the tape along the perforation.)

Printing in black & white when color cartridge ran out

I had the same problem. Had no choice but to buy the colors I ran out to make the printer work. In order to avoid future problems and save on color inked I attempted to follow the steps of a previous posting, however, that did not work for me. This is what I had did. Print, select properties, advance, continue, check box - Black ink only. Remember when you decide to print in color you must reset your setting and take out the check from the - Black ink only.

My magenta will not print well

Here's what you should do. Remove all ink cartridges. Get some rubbing alcohol, preferrably 91% proof (leaves less moisture) Get a couple normal paper towels. Check each cartridge for dried ink and remove it using an alcohol wetted paper towel. (The deep cleaning procedures aren't always effective.) The gold contacts on each cartridge should be gold when you are done. Use the same procedure on the gold contacts of the ink cartridge housing inside the printer. Take your time, do it well. If that does not fix the problem, then do the following. Switch the black and magenta cartridge. Some printers won't print when you do this, other printers don't know the difference. If your printer is the later, then attempt a print job using a page that has a line of both black and magenta text. If you see a black print, then the problem is your magenta cartridge (despite having installed a new one) If the magenta prints, then you know the magenta cartridge is good. If the magenta prints but the black doesn't, then you have a printer failure. Let me know your results. ZT3000 Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
