My Dell Optiplex GX620 had a blue screen of death(fatal error) on it this am, and I powered it off, then when I tried to power it back on, it did nothing and the power button is flashing yellow. Now what do i do to figure out the problem?
If the main power button LED is flashing or solid yellow, this could indicate a hardware problem. Was it running good before? Are the diagnostic LED lights all green? Here is what dell says: If the power light is blinking amber —
The computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist. Do you remember what the BSOD said?
Also check that one of the USB ports is not damaged.
I had a PC with same sysmptoms (flashing amber) and I replaced the PSU. No joy, so I replaced the mainboard. Still same.
Someone mentioned that a connected USB device could be the cause.
In my case, PC is from a Computer Suite in a University and some student had damaged one of the USB ports at the front, causing a short.
I disconnected ribbon cable and PC powered up. Now working with the offedning port taped off.
First make sure that the data cable from your tour pc is plugged and all you computer is plugged right then try to restart the computer if the screen is still yellow led look at the computer power led make sure it is green if its green so you might have problem with your vga ( video card ) this in case of the screen is died i mean black screen no nothing but the led is yellow

Fixed by replacing the power supply. The replaced supply produced the same symptoms in another GX620.
Power button flashing amber
Turned off GX620 tower PC; all was OK - normal shut down....
Upon power button activation now get flashing yellow LED - no turn-on
Disconnected 110VAC - no reset, just same yellow flashing & no turn-on.
5VDC is present to motherboard(MB) connector, MB yellow LED is on.
Dell says either it's a PS or MB problem - how to know?
Does PS have a linear pilot 5VDC circuit to MB? Yup
At ATX connector I forced PS "ON" by shorting Pin 14 to 13/15 (gnd). Fans came alive full speed and I checked all voltages at ATX ---> all is GOOD. Go to Google search for "ATX connector pinouts" for info.
Looks to be a motherboard problem (at least how the MB controlling pin 14).

I decided I had nothing to loose so I forced the PS "on" via ATX Pin14-13/15 short while connected to the MB ---> fans came on a blazing full tilt - then I pushed the front power button - the >>>PC booted up normally!!!<<< Alive and working GREAT, it even turns OFF OK via WinXP, the fans are still PC controlled at reduced RPM/CFM accordingly.... But without the PS forced ON via ATX pin 14 the power button will just flash yellow and do nothing on each turn-on attempt.
My perm solution is to install a permanent short (ATX pin 14 to 13/15) use a dedicated external (surge resistant) power strip to control 110VAC to the PC when I want all OFF.
Just an old USN tech/HAM before becoming MS-EET.
