Hi I have a WS100 Samsung Digital camera and when I switch it on it seems to go haywire, switching from one function to another and back again. When I try to review pictures it will suddenly revert back to "take a picture" mode. Seems like a softward problem, can I update the software on the camera to cue the problem?
SOURCE: Date and time reset at power-on
Canon point and shoot cameras have an internal backup battery (a very small watch battery sized cell). Look under your battery door - do you see a small tab that has "CR1220" or something like that marked on it? If so - this is your backup cell. Just replace it and you will be good to go. If you do not see this, then the backup battery is buried deep inside the camera and would require full disassembly to replace. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
SOURCE: HP Digital Camera - M425 - Stuck in review mode, won't switch to capture mode
I just fixed my daughters camera with this problem. First go to the capture mode and see if the reason you are in review mode is because the camera thinks it is docked. If so, look at the dock port on the bottom of the camera. ( May need to magnify it to see in there ) Look for any green corrosion between the contacts. Her's has this corossion between two pairs of the contacts. I took a jewelers screw driver and scraped out the corrosion and then blew canned air in there to remove it. Turned it on and now it works fine. I have a feeling that the battery compartment is venting through this port and the small amount of acid vapor produced as the batteries discharge is causing the contacts to get this corrosion.

Hi
Thanks
for using FixYa. Please check the battery is fully charged.
If you are able to access the Menu, please select Initialize under Settings and
Main Settings 1 Menu and press OK. If still the issue persists, perform
the power reset by removing the Battery and
pressing the power button continuously for one minute. Then, leave the power
button and reinsert the Battery.
To reset
the Digital Camera by using a RESET
button follow these steps---
To perform a manual power reset follows these
steps---
If still
the issue persists then it means that the cabinet is opened or LCD cable is
touched which is caused by connection defect or poor contact between connector
and LCD cable due to the pressure by the rib in the front cabinet to the
connector. If still its not resolved then as its a new one so you should use its warranty and get it replaced just to avoid future issues.
Please do
accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager, and is a known defect for your particular model camera.. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free if you live in the US, Canada, and a select few other countries. If you live outside the US, contact Canon support for your country to see if they'll still honor the advisory (some still will, especially if you stress you knowledge that this is a known defect of the camera). They may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.
