Door does not close tight enough to engage the automatic lock mechanism - the machine makes several attempts to lock and then the FL clode (failure to lock) code is displayed.
I had this problem also with my Maytag Neptune TL. The door lock would click muptiple times before displaying the FL code. I was able to fix this by removing the left door look(the one with the door close sensor) and cleaning the 2 metal pones on top of the left door mechanism, which had rusted and no longer was able to since the door closed. I use a nail file i sure eaither that or sandpaper will do. After that it went through the whole cylce without stopping or displaying the "FL" code.......hope this helps
Hi. this is a failed Door lock mech that should be replaced asap if possible. This will run you about 55 to 60 dollars tops.
It is a good rule to replace the door lock hoop assembly along with the door lock latch assembly at the same time. make sure the alignment it correct during the installation.

If you are unable to lock your safe with the key, there may be a few reasons why this is happening. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
- Ensure the locking bolts are fully retracted: Before trying to lock your safe, ensure that the locking bolts are fully retracted into the safe door. If the bolts are not fully retracted, this can prevent the locking mechanism from engaging. - Make sure the key is fully inserted: Ensure that the key is fully inserted into the lock mechanism and turned in the correct direction to lock the safe. Sometimes the key may not turn if it is not fully inserted into the lock. - Check for any obstructions: Check the door and locking mechanism for any obstructions that may be preventing the lock from engaging. Ensure that the door is fully closed and flush with the safe body. - Try applying pressure to the door: Sometimes safes can become misaligned, making it difficult to lock the door. Try applying gentle pressure to the door while turning the key to see if this helps the locking mechanism engage.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a problem with the locking mechanism itself. In this case, you should contact a professional locksmith to diagnose and repair the issue.
The E42 error indicates a problem with the door lock mechanism. If the door was closed, did you hear the lock attempt to engage? If you heard the lock, check the door strike. If the strike is good, replace the door lock. If the lock didn't attempt to engage, check the wiring between the door lock and the control board. If the wiring is well seated and the wires have continuity, replace the door lock. If the replacement lock doesn't solve the problem, then replace the main control board. (You should find a diagram with the wiring inside the unit near the control board.) If you have broken wires in the wiring harness, replace the wiring.
Please add a comment with the model of your washer if you want me to point you to any parts/price lists.
Hi, the "latch keeper" has gotten out of alignment. You'll need to adjust it. All you'll need is a Phillips screwdriver to fix this. Open the door and look at the "latch keeper" (it's not on the door, but on the frame). It's the thing that the door lock/latch grabs on to when you try to lock the door. There are 2 screws holding it in place. Loosen these, pull the keeper toward you a bit and tighten the screws to lock it in. Now try your door. This may take several attempts to get it just right, because you want the door closing tight enough so as not to allow a water leak and loose enough for you to close it easily.
A possible simple repair can be attempted at the hinge of the door place a towel/washcloth/or other suitable clothing to add a soft jamming space and GENTLY!!! push the DOOR in an attempt to close it, place one hand at the normal closing area and the other opposite 1/3 of the way from the hinge. If there is not enough wedge fold over garment at hinge and make it thicker do this until door will close properly.
Your Maytag Neptune Washing Machine displays error codes, also called "help codes," to identify specific problems with your washer. Once you close your Maytag Neptune's door, the machine locks the door, goes through the selected wash cycles and unlocks the door when the laundry is finished. Error codes appear when there are problems with the door, the inflow and drainage of water and the motor. The "FL" code indicates that the washing machine was unable to lock the door after you closed it. Open and close the door tightly, then restart the washing cycle. Door lock monitor switch in door lock mechanism unable to communicate to control board the door is locked. 1.Check wire connections in harness leading from machine control board to door lock mechanism.2.Check solenoid and door lock enable switch in door lock mechanism. 3.Replace responsible component.
I had the same problem on mine. Tyr this: Use the interior handle and lift it. Hold it and, with a pencil, you need to lift a little part on the lock system. Once this is lift, the door will engage. Now do not lock your door before closing your door!
