Lens keeps getting stuck/needs a good tug to zoom past 25 HELP!

My 18-55mm basic lens on my Nikon D80 was stuck when I tried to manually zoom. It eventually unstuck after some fiddling but is now sticking acting like theres something preventing it from turning everytime I do. AND very sporadically when I automatically focus it makes a screeching sound that almost sounds like a film camera, when mine is digital. HELP!!!

Hi Rachael_amor, If the lens will not zoom on the camera will it off the camera? If not then it has some grit, dirt, and the like in the lens. You could attempt to vacuum around the zoom however, I suspect it will need to go in to Nikon. That lens is not well weather sealed, it is a inexpensive consumer lens.

The qual/zoom button on my nikon D80 is stuck or jammed and I can't get it released

Hi Guest, if the buttons themselves are depressed and cannot bounce out as the other buttons do you could try to use a super thin jewelers flat screw driver to see if you can get it to pop out. A few things going on here, grit came between the button and the body or, the item that pushes the button to its return state has lost its resiliency. If it is because of loss of resiliency the camera must go in for repairs and a good CLA.

D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens: My nikon d80 will not auto focus when I push the s...

The r11 is in the lower right of the top LCD or view finder that is in the D80 manual page 36 it speaks about the buffer. The r with a number is how many shots the buffer at that moment can handle. It is not an error message. For auto focus issue is the lens in AF as well as the camera?

I have a Nikon D80 SLR camera, and have purchased an Opteka 650 x 1300 mm zoom lens (fit on). I have changed the setting on the camera to manual, and it will now take photographs, however the images are...

You can't meter through that lens. If the images are too dark, either slow down the shutter speed or open the aperture. Keep going until the picture looks okay on the monitor. If you know how to use the histogram, that's even better. If you go too far and get images too light, reverse the process (faster shutter speed or smaller aperture).

If you have another light meter, you can use that to get a ballpark exposure to start with. Alternatively, take a reading with your other lens at the longest zoom.

Aperture cant be changed on manual mode

Maybe a lens problem. Try to re-seat the lens and play with the Aperture test button on the right side of the camera (near your right finger)

Auto focus at full zoom not responding Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR

Hi - I own this lens and it manually focuses at all focal lengths (hard to see at 18mm unless your subject is extremly close). You may need to get the lens checked. BTW - Mine was set as follows when I checked for you:
  • D80 was "on"
  • M/A
  • VR = Off
  • Normal (not Active)
Hope this helps!

Zoom lens is "locked"

Is there a little lock switch on the lens?? My Nikon lens all have a tiny little lock and if it accidentally gets pushed into lock position it will not zoom. Barry Brown www.coralreefphotos.com

Nikon D80 error

The CPU contacts on the lens can sometimes get dirty and they can be cleaned by gently rubbing them with the eraser end of a pencil.   Be very careful to not get any of the eraser rubbings into the lens.   Also, when handling a lens, don't touch these contacts, as the sweat from our hands is not good on the metal.
