Try removing the Wifi device from Device manager.

Then windows will automatically reinstall it.

if this does not work you may need to use an external USB wifi device.

Have you checked that the wireless network connection is not disabled in "control panel" "network connections". Also check Device Manager and make sure that the wireless device is listed under network adapters. Have you turned off the wireless device in the bios? If you need help with any of these let me know. I will also need to know which operating system you are using i.e. XP or Vista

I downloaded windows and can't figure out how to enable wifi. It's like the only options are for dial-up and dsl/cable.

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look (((•))) Make sure its pressed on. The internet connection is located in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the screen. The icon looks like a series of rectangles that increase in from left to right. Right-click the Wi-Fi icon and select "Connect to a network." You will see a list of available wireless networks. Choose a Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and select "Connect." Enter the password into the password text box if a password is required. If a password is not required, you will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network. Click "OK." Hope this helps.

It needs it's software and driver disk so that it will work. It also mean that the DSL and WI-FI is not compatible with the operating system.

I have a compaq presario F756nr with an Atheros wireless wi-fi card in it. Can I replace the wi-fi card with a Broadcom 802.11 b/g wireless LAN card?

no you cannot replace the built-in wi-fi card...
if you try to change the drivers for atheros wi-fi to Broadcam driver, your wi-fi card will not function anymore.... but you can always install another WI-FI card in your laptop... you can buy a USB Adapter or a Cardbus(PCMCIA) adapter for this purpose...if you want your wi-fi signal strenth and range to be higher, you can opt to buy an adapter which comes under N standard....N standard wi-fi adapters are capable of connecting at a speed of more than 300mbps(practically) to any N standard device like router....

Could you make sure that wifi switch is turned on.

This will be physicall button on the laptop of function keys combination that enables wifi.

If wifi switch is on you should be able to see wifi networks in range. IF you see networks but can not connect this will be network security issue. MAke sure that wireless network router is properly setup and security key you enter is correct

be sure that your wifi driver is correct if not or cannot connect of any wireless available.. try to remove then re install again or update from the internet.

Hi! For Wi-Fi you have to check weather the Wi-Fi switch is off or not ,there is small switch at side off laptop.
For sound you have to check the drivers

You may find that the WiFi card needs new drivers. Some particular wifi adapters don't have XP drivers. Compaq are now owned by hewlett packard so go to www.hp.com and search for XP drivers for your wifi card there - luckily HP are very good for providing drivers for XP even on Vista-supplied systems.
