This problem has only been apparent for the last 2 months. The indication light occasionally switches from stable blue to blinking, without the interference of the remote control. The screen is a constant black, and will not respond to any functions on the remote (i.e. power on/off, input, etc.).

Any sound? The problem can be due to bad 24vdc power supply due to bad caps or failed components, bad backlights inverter boards, bad main board. You need to troubleshoot it to really locate the bad board/s.

Sounds like the problem could be in the power supply of the TV. Have a technican check for defective capacitors if you're not equipped to do the job yourself.
