When i start the cooler (on Auto/Cool). The remote states that it is starting its pre-cool cycle but the fan wont start until i go on the roof and manually spin it. it runs for about 10 mins blowing nice cool air at top speed (can reduce if i choose) then stops. It is 8 yrs old and this is its first fault. I am also embarrassed to say that it has never been serviced nor has 'SERVICE' ever shown up on the remote. I live in Perth WA. Thanks for any advice. John
You need a new capacitor. look for wires going from fan to a silver item with wires on top. it must be the same size as old one.
Testimonial: "Cheers Scott Another thing is the black auto drain plug doesnt seem to be pluging properly, does the capacitor control that too and the wires are 2 brown ones (no markings) and the silver metal capacitor (about 6" x 1 1/2" round ) has 4 male plugs (no markings except 1 has a #2 written near it). can you connect the wrong male tabs? Cheers again for your quick reply. Will go shopping monday for a capacitor (airspares.com)"

Correction, drain plug is auto closing now, just leaking a little (easy fix) It wasnt before and water was low.15 mins and Aircon still running good... fingers crossed and very happy :)
Bummer it stopped...lol
aircon fixed for $35 Have a great day Scott
Mine was having this problem too! Thank you, my husband took a look at this and was able to fix it! It has been so frustrating to have it messed up. Ruth James |http://www.clarkheating-cooling.com/

SOURCE: RV air conditioner. Compressor running, fan stops before cool
The fan motor is getting hot and going off on the internal overload in the motor.
This is caused by either a low voltage, a bad capacitor, or tight or dry bearings in the motor.
To check the bearings turn the power off to the unit, then spin the fan blade if it spins freely then the bearings are ok.
To check the capacitor you will need some kind of tester or you can buy a capacitor and replace it, that's what a lot of people do. They usually don't cost very much.
To check the voltage you will need a voltmeter and measure the volts at the unit.
SOURCE: ac fan not turning on I can ''stick start it'' but which direction?
The condensor fan should be sucking air from the top and blowing it through the coils, probably a counter clockwise direction. The buzzing/humming sound is confusing to me. A humming sound sounds like a motor that can not turn over to start. A starting capacity would be needed. Just because you changed it out last year does not mean it is good. A buzzing sound sounds like a contactor problem. Contactors buzz and after a while, they will fail. In any case, you can "stick start" the condensor fan PROVIDED you are sure the ac compressor is working (this is for a short and temporary use). Also, you may have a high load duty capacitor that assists in the unit running. This will affect your condensor fan operation if it is not good. Unless you know all the components and operations of ac electrical, I would highly recommend calling out a professional.
SOURCE: Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan stops spinning after 15 mins
Capacitor, dirty condencer coil causing the motor amps to run too high. But most likely worn bearing on blade side of motor causing it to pull to one side causing it to over heat and shut down. Sleve bearings should have no side play.
SOURCE: air conditioner doesn't blow cold air. Continues
If the a/c fails to continue to blow cold there could be a few problems you can look for. First once you activate the system check to see if the compressor kicks in. You will hear the compressor humming . Once the a/c quits cooling go and see if the compressor is still running. If its not running its probibly gone into thermal overload (compressor overheated). If that is the case then you need to check to see if the coils are icing up if they are icing up then the problem is with 1) air flow restriction filter dirty, coils dirty simple repairs there replace filter, clean evaporator coil with a coil cleaner that can be purchased at a home repair store cleaning the condensor coil the same. 2) system is low on freon in which case the system will need to be recharged. Also, If you have a digital thermostat replace the batteries that may also be of some help. Good Luck on repairs
