Connecting an old computer tower to flat screen philips tv/monitor the tv speakers are not working. TV works fine as a monitor but no sound. NVIDIA sound card appears to be functioning. Frustrating as hoped to stream TV. Trying to set up Westinghouse 32-inch as dual monitor for my Dell XPS 410. My picture is great. Using DVI to HDMI. PC card is Nvidia geforce 7300LE. But no luck with audio. I'm connecting 3.5mm output from PC (which is working with speakers) to the 3.5mm input on TV. That 3.5mm input for TV is specifically marked for PC input...

Ur tv the LCD inverter board it dead.The LCD inverter is the board that help the LCD screen panel to get a backlight to produce a picture,the LCD inverter board is dead and it not working anymore that why u only get 8 sec.of the picture.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish LCD inverter board for the replacement.It a long board in shape.

These TVs are notorious for backlight inverter problem. You could look for a complete backlight board(this will be easier if you're not a tech), or you can replace the transformer and transistor(transistor doesn't always go - sometimes you get lucky). The transformer that is bad will have a small burn mark in it where one of the legs comes up from the board. If I was you I would just replace the board since it's easier.
