Generally, your Pioneer DVD 120K player can play any DVDs from your region. As you encounter the situation that can not play the DVD, i guess your DVD from other region. To change the region code of DVD is High-risk operation, it only can be changed less than 5 time, and you are not to recommended to do that. If only for one or several DVD Discs, just remove the DVD region code via a DVD ripper. Of course, if you bought the DVD player from other region, you can change the region code of DVD player permanently.

Have you changed the Regional Code of the DVD changer? Changing of Regional Code of the Changer is permitted for 5 times. To view movies of different region code, some people change it. Suppose you or someone have viewed a movie of different region movie after changing the region code & now you are trying to view a DVD of your region. In this case you will have to change the region code to your region. Changing of region code is available through the setup of the Changer.
Only DVD's themselves can be multi-region (region code 0).
I always advise on this site that you NEVER change the region code on your DVD player! Here is why....
To prevent DVD copy piracy, every DVD player from EVERY manufacturer allows (if it is allowed at all) only TWO changes to the region code. A third attempt to change the region code permanently locks the player and turns it into a paperweight.
If you happen to be the rare exception to the rule.... that you have moved to a new place that requires you to change the region code to view locally purchased DVD's, then by all means change it ONCE to be able to use your DVD player. Please remember that you can only change it one more time after that though! You will unfortunately not be able to watch DVD's that are from your old region.

You can only change the region code a few times (usually 5), so I wouldn't do it. You should leave the current player at region 1, and buy and install another DVD player and set it to region 4, then you will have 1 for each region you want.
This is for DVP31XXX series i hope it works all on DVP31 series. It has been tested on DVP3146K /51 and it has been worked...
1. Make sure there is no disc in the player. 2. Turn power off and on again. 3. Open the tray. 4. On the remote, hit 9879 and then 0. This changes unit to Region 0, meaning it'll play all regions. 5. Hit OK on the remote.
