Connecting tv external speakers

I have a Sony bravia TV, JVC rx662v receiver, and bose 301 speakers. I connected red and white audio jacks to the back of the TV and into the TV sound jacks of the receiver. I went into the TV set up and changed the settings the external speakers but don't get any sound out of the speakers.

No, that's not going to work. Digital output is just that....Digital. Your trying to send a digital into analog....won't work. Your tv don't have red and white audio out. That's what you hook to, but it still wouldn't be 5.1. Your out of luck my friend. The ONLY way you'll get 5.1 out of that T.V. is to get a 5.1 reciever with CO-AX digital input...the SAME as whats on your T.V. You can only hook-up sound to your X-FI with the line in jack using a y-connector and 1/8" stereo plug....and it won't ever be 5.1. It can't that way. Only way to get 5.1 to work on the blaster is with the tosh-link optical input cable. This too is digital, but uses optics to send it. Remember, you are playing with 2 different formats. Analog with your white/red thing you made and then digital. Digital using co-ax or optical tosh-link. Completely different.....as you now know.

SOURCE: i have external speakers /

I do not want to sound patronizing, but I have no idea how much you know about wiring ... so I'm probably going to over-explain everything. Hopefully it won't read like stereo instructions ... ha ha ha
Depending on your TV, theremight be a door covering the wire access .. or there might be audio outputs on the front of your TV ... but these are more likely to be inputs for game consoles and other things. You should have a red and a white jack in the back of your TV marked "Audio Out" ... those are left and right audio outputs from your TV. Use RCA cables from Radio Shack or wherever and connect that to your amp left and right audio inputs -- the RCA jacks should be the same color as the wire connecting them, which makes it easier to trace wires later. Generally, the amp should have a red and a white RCA jack as well .. make sure they match your wires , too ... or you'll end up hearing things in reverse. You should find sterio wire inputs on the back of your amp -- if your speakers have the wire connected, set them up and then plug them into the appropriate jacks. There shoud be some sort of lever on the side of each of thee jacks, push it open and insert the wires. Some of these are spring-loaded so you might have to keep your finger on it to hold it open. Just put a bare cord from the speaker into it, and make sure the lever closes again, securing the wire. Your amp should have the left and right speaker outputs, subwoffer output, and everything labeled, but you'll probably need a lot of light on it to see it (usually it is just a recessed or relief letter L and R for the left and right speakers.
I am not exactly well off, so most of the electronics I have are a bit old. You might only have a different audio output from your television, in which case I would recommend speaking with someone at Radio Shack -- they tend to know a lot about wiring electronics together (more than at Best Buy or other big-box stores) or if you don't have one of those around, find a local electronics store, or a pawn shop ... people who work in these types of places usually enjoy the challenge of putting a round plug into a square jack.

How to add external rca jacks to the output

To connect your audio receiver to your Proview 3200 flat screen TV, you can use RCA cables. Here are the steps:

Locate the RCA jacks on your TV and audio receiver. One jack is white, and the other is red.
Plug the white RCA cable into the white jack on the TV and the red RCA cable into the red jack. Reversing them will cause the stereo signal from the TV to be incorrect.
Take the other end of the RCA cables and plug the white and red ends into an available RCA input on the back of your audio receiver.
If your TV doesn't have RCA jacks, you can use a digital-to-analog audio converter to connect your TV to a 5.1 audio system that has only RCA inputs 1. You can follow these steps:

Unbox the digital-to-analog converter.
Connect the optical cable to the converter.
Connect the RCA cable to the converter.
Connect the other end of the RCA cable to an available corresponding analog audio input on your audio receiver

Connecting tv external speakers

Process of elimination... First and foremost, you didn't tell us what model Bravia TV... the RX-V model has so many plausible connections to that TV, even if there is no optical on the TV.

Would you please verify TV model, and check exact Yamaha Model, I looked for the model you state and couldn't find it.

Generally speaking... red/white is the oldest way to connect to your receiver... are you connected to the correct input? and how is the receiver to send to the tv? What is the input... cable, dvd, etc... then you select "input" then on the receiver you select OUTPUT only is labeled on the receiver. Now... let's say cable box goes into the TV, and you are wondering why no audio.. that is because you are using an INPUT on the tv white/red to the receiver.. cannot do that, won't work, only HDMI can talk both way on some HDMI input/output. The only only only way output from a TV can be done is HDMI arc ...(look up ARC) and then enable it on receiver too.... or a optical from tv to receiver, or lastly output red/white on the tv... and in some you don't have any but may have a headphone jack that you'd buy a headphone jack to red/white ... take the headphone jack plug that in.. that is output, make the input any input on the receiver and you will select that input on the remote and it'll work.

Gimme more infor and I can get you better answers :)

No audio thru receiver with xbox360

Get some audio cables from radio shack or gamestop and use the regular audio jacks on the xbox to connect to your receiver.  Your video will be HD, but your audio won't.

Connecting my HDTV to my Bose Cinemate

If your BOSE system only has one audio input you will have to connect everything to your tv and like the other guy said there will be an audio out on the back of your tv, connect that to your BOSE and when you switch inputs on your tv it should send that audio to your speaker setup.
